How magical is The Galapagos - words can't even explain it!! Fortunately we were able to experience life of The Galapagos on a first class boat (Yacht) after we finished up our volunteering. We set sail on 'Free Enterprise' for 4 days with 18 other tourists around the South East Islands including: South Plazas; Sante Fe; Espanol; and Floreana.
The abundance of both the marine and land animals is amazing. For instance we snorkeled about twice a day both on the coastal shores and in the middle of the ocean to view Sea lions swimming with us and even giving us a peek on our masks; swimming over turtle's - seeing them swim is so graceful; swimming down in a school of tropical fish and even having the opportunity to swim alongside a White Tip Reef Shark - I never thought we would have the guts to do that.
Back on land is a totally different experience as you get the opportunity to be a part of the animal life as you can get so close to the animals. I guess the most famous animals on the Galapagos are the Land and Marine Iguanas, and the Giant Tortoises, and these are all in abundance. And as Charles Darwin noted all these animals vary slightly depending on the island as they have evolved depending on their environment. Being able to see the oldest creatures on earth (The Giant Tortoises) move is a sight, also being able to look at the prehistoric Iguana's in the eye is like watching Jurassic Park. Yet you also have the opportunity to view Blue Boobies (birds) dancing - which they do to attract their sexual partners; Pink Flamingos wadding in lagoons; a Galapagos Shark (just like Jaws) eat a Bobbie (we viewed this safely from cliff top!!); a pod of Sting Rays mating - what a sight they are so graceful.
And after all this you hop back on the Yacht to eat a 3 course dinner and have a hot shower and then being able to go onto the deck on watch a pod of dolphins swimming next to us, a flock of Frigates swimming overhead, viewing the sun set on the Pacific ocean and then only a few minutes latter watching the moon rise over the Pacific - picturesque!! And to top it all off we slept under the stars on top of the boat on our last night.
YOU MUST COME TO THE GALAPAGOS IT IS BOTH AMAZING; PREHISTORIC; AN ANIMALS PARADISE AND A BEACH HOLIDAY IN ONE!
