Life is not just working at Jatun Sacha
After a hard day of work what better way to spend the afternoon lazing about and taking a dip in a river and we have practically done this every other day. The Rio Napo (a tributary of the Amazon) is about a 20 min walk from Jatun Sacha so Bron and I have now, swam in it, tubed in it, canoed in it and as of yesterday I have also floated down it in a rapid!!
Tubing
Remember as a little kid getting a tyre tube and floating in a dam or river...well this is the best way to float down the rivers here. Our best route is from the Botanical Gardens (where we work every now and then weeding and pruning) down the rapids to the little village of La Punta. The trip takes 2 hours floating at very low speed (we let the rivers current take us down), apart from the few rapids we go down which is the best bit!! The scenery is breathtaking as you can really take it all in from the abundant vegetation hanging over the river, to the smells and sounds that a rainforest has to offer, to watching the variety of bird life swooping down into the river and finally watching the locals live there life by the river (panning for gold, swimming, washing, or using it as a transport passage). After the long trip down it is a 15min bus ride back to Jatun Sacha which often means taking the bus back on-top of the roof...what a way to view the Amazon.
