We were on fire day 1 in KL!! we finally thought our luck has changed. Flight went smoothly, got our money changed, bags collected and headed for a bus. Found the best deal 8 ringets (bout 4bux) and that got us from the airport to KL Sentral train station. We had an address of a potential hotel and found out it was in china town. Got the name of the train stop there - only one from the main station, got a ticket and we were away before we knew it. oops hang on...not without a much awaited for feed of mcdonalds!! we rekon wev gone 2 months without, so we indulged! anyway, get off at our stop ask a few people about where the hotel may be, get a few points in a direction and set off. then BAM we stumble acrross the street after only 5mins of walking, then look to the left and BAM theres our hotel!!!! in a city with population of 6.9million, we had 8 bags in tow (includes handbags, we havent shopped THAT much!!!), in hot heat and we made it just like that. BOOM!!!
Very exhausted we parked up in our room for a nap and some quality HBO movie watching. Once some energy was regained we hit the china town street markets. Crazy busy place thats for sure!! Red lanterns hanging from above, china town type music playing and people squashed into this 2 alley market street. Some bargains were had and some happy purchases made. We headed to central markets an indoor market for some dinner. Got 3 dishes - yummiest noodles yet and a drink each for about 10bux between us. Back home and into bed to continue recovery..
Today was the day we were menat to do all our sights and get th elay of the land of KL, but we woke up and it was already 11am so we decided today would be our cruisy day. We finally left the hotel around 2pm and headed out on the train, switched to monorail and made it to this massive shopping centre - 10 floors hight and covered something like 3,465,000 square hectors or some crazy number anyway. but the main reason we went was the indoor theme park that took up the 5th, 7th and 8th floors housing the largest indoor rollercoaster - 800m long. We hit up all the big rides - not very scary compared to gold coast but still lots of fun. We went on the roller coaster about 6 times trying to come up with the funniest pose for camera and came away with a bought photo of us all doing stag antlers - proud southlanders! Spent a good few hours there and headed back to KL sentral to meet up with some friends, but due to the Formula 1 being on here didnt quite meet up. Headed back on the monerail to Bukit Bintang - the happening place of KL as quoted by loney planet where the streets were just buzzing! full of people, night lights it was awesome. Had dinner and a bit of a walk around, but still feeling the effects of Full moon headed home for a quiet night.
Day 3 we got up early and made the most of the day purchasing a hop on hop off bus ticket. First stop was the palace got a few good snaps here and poses with the guards. Next stop we got off and went to the butterfly park. similar set up to the one in dunedin but alot bigger and outdoor with a canopy. Tried to find the lake gardens but to no success. Got back on the bus to the worlds largest bird park but this was going to ost us 20bux and with being on budget we traded that for breakfast! Did a good part of the bus loop with out getting off but looking at the sights, but the next stop was the petrona twin towers. they are massive and amazing! about half way up is a sky bridge that ya can go up and get great views - so we heard, but you had to get there at like 630am to line up to get tickets, so instead we just got some sweet snaps outside. To makeup for it we got off at the stop at the KL tower, the fourth largest tower in the world. We got a 360 degree view of the city, it was fantastic. Also included in our ticket was a pony ride with carriage - slightly embarassing, animal zone - saw snakes, monkeys, racoons, skunks etc and a simulator - really just like playstation of the formular 1. u sat in a car and it was a racing game - was quite fun. We then did a complete of the tour sitting up on the top deck so we could pictures. Got off at one of the stops near home and headed to an irish bar where we splashed out on dinner for one of the first times this trip!! it was delicious! We had befriended an aussie from the tour so we all headed to reggae bar for another couple of jugs. Bed was calling and we jumped in a cab to head home.
Day 4 was a very sad day...the wolf pack was to lose another member, splitting us into one lone wolf and a pack of just 2! Abbey did her last pack and prepared for her solo trip to london, leaving behind her banker (grace) and earing sister (britt). We did one last walk trhough china town to get fruit for breakfast, quick stop off at the 7/11 for contraban treats for the flight, and off on the train we went for our last ride together. Abs got on her lovely air conditioned bus at KL sentral as britt and gravy weaved from the humid street of KL as she headed to the air port! fingers crossed she made it and will update a blod entry from the UK.
Grace and Britt, skint on the cash as they were headed to the mall again. We decided we could afford to see a movie and got some tickets to its complicated. We wondered around the shops but it was far too overwhelming, we little money and you werent allowed to try any clothes on - what the hell?? We felt we had filled up most of our day so we jumped on the monorail and headed for a dinner - shared one meal and then home to read our books, watch a movie and go to sleep!
LAST DAY IN SOUTH EAST ASIA!!!! where did 2 months go???? Currently still in china town filling in some time before we head to the airport. Wondered through the markets one last time, will head to KL Sentral for a feed then on our bus to the airport to board for gold coast! Looking forward to being in an english speaking country, toilets that dont cost and have toilet paper, and a decent meat and vege meal!!!
