The Epic Adventures of Andy Bright
Jaipur
The hostel I had booked had said it was walking distance from the station, but given what happened in Delhi, I decided to go wild and get a rickshaw for the guide price of 20p.
I was approached in the station by a young lad who spoke good English, and I told him I just wanted a rickshaw.
Usual story he wanted a crazy price, but he had friends in Manchester and he has been working in taxis for long time and he have good business blah blah blah.
I started to walk off when he grabbed someone and said ok he will take you for 20 rupees.
So we start to walk deep in the car park and then he says that first we will go to some shops for gemstone then tailor..........
Quelle surprise.
So I walked to the tuk tuks and did a deal for 70 Rupees despite the lad telling me it was a long way away.
I knew for a fact it was only half a mile
Off we set and I realised he just went the long way around a block.
I only had a hundred and shook my head as I said 5 miles?......
And wished him good luck.
Hey, where is my tip? He shouted and gave me a really dirty look.
We agreed 70, I give you a hundred, take it before I change my mind I told him.
You give me tip he shouted waving the money.
So I put my head in the tuk tuk and told him to go...........
Two days in India and each day someone needed a punch.
Anyhow hostel was ok, much better than Delhi, but still pretty awful.
The owner was really friendly and helped me rent a tuk tuk with driver for the next day to show me the sights.
The driver started off really well just taking me to the sights. I was really not well and felt I had seen enough by early afternoon, so when he asked me where next I said what do you suggest?
Fatal mistake.
Surprise surprise we ended up at a textile factory with a massive shop upstairs.
I told him to take me me home.
But the homeless people work here he told me.
If you want paying, take me home now or else I dont pay you I told him.
Well we soon shot off I must say.
The Amber Palace had been really impressive, but that was about it.
I did have a wicked Tandoori Chicken, but once again Jaipur was not as I had imagined it.
