Ok so from Mancora i got a 16 hour bus to Lima. From Lima 30 mins later i got a 22 hour bus to Tacna. From Tacna an hour later i got a 2 hour taxi Journey across the border to Arica in Chile. From Chile 30 mins later i got a 32 hour bus to Santiago. You do the Math....70 odd hours???? In all honesty i slept for about 68.8 hours of it lol. No i slept alot i obviously needed it. I can only sleep when my body feels im not wasting the day and as i had nothing else to do...it was all good. 6 hours left on the last bus i began to get aggy. My Ipod had died, id finished my Nicholas Sparks book (amazing, never dissapoints!!!) and read everything there was to read in my LP. AT the Bus terminal i made friends with an Irish girl who is on the same flight as me. We bonded and are spending the next few days together. Nice spending time with a female lol.
Summing up my trip in South America...
Planning my Round the world trip i remember thinking "Alot of people i have met travlling elsewhere have said how amazing South America is...why not?". Settled. Thats where i will begin my RTW trip. For the most part i just wanted to get away. The planning began a year ago and already the first leg of my trip is over...
Where do i begin to find the words to describe my time in South America...??? It has lived up to every expectation and more. I´ve met some amazing people. I´ve done seen and learnt things i didnt think were possible.
I´ve seen villages function without electicity and running water, some villages dont even have the luxury of a horse and cart. Yet people living in the villages seem happier then most people i see on a day to day basis in the UK. I´ve trekked in Mines, exploded dinamite and learnt that boys as young as 10 are working 10 hours a day 6 days a week. I trekked the Inca trail and learnt that children walk 3 hours to and from school everyday and consider it a privilage to attend school. I´ve eaten the best steak in Argentina. I´ve eaten Llama and Pirahna in Bolivia. I swam in the amazon with pirahnas, aligators and pink river dolphins. Later i watched the boys play Bolivia at football while the sunset over the Jungle (we lost). I ventured into the SaltFlats and experienced the Salar De Uyuni with the craziest group of guys, making the trip what it was.
I learnt to surf in Peru, I white Water Rafted in Brazil and i Bungied in Ecuador. Amongst other things i lost my bankcard and my camera with 600 pics on it. Inc some amzing Portfolio pics i was working on. I was really sick with altitude sickness for 3 days in Bolivia. Needless to say afew teary phone calls home were made. During bus journeys i´ve fallen asleep in the rainforest and woken up in what resembles the Grand Canyon. We have gone from the coast to what looks like the moon in a matter of minutes.
I´ve volunteered in Buenos Aires. I´ve been caught in a sand Tornado in the dessert and caught in a current in Peru that swept us 3 miles down the coast.
I´ve cycled the worlds most dangerous road and I have seen Machu Pichu. I´ve experienced both a locals funeral and many backpackers birthdays.
I´ve experienced temperatures from minus10 to 45 degress within 24 hours. Ive starred at the sky and never seen so many stars... ever.
I´ve cried while watching Armageddon, snuggled to watch Topgun. I have a new fondness for Backstreetboys and Bonjovi. I´ve read numerous books and missed out on at least 3 weeks worth of sleep.
I am gutted to be leaving South America and this chapter of my life. I am however super excited to get to NZ and start the next chapter...
