For anyone whose been checking our blog for an update, sorry we've been a bit lazy over the past few weeks. So i'll give you the jist of our travels since the Perhentians.
We headed to Borneo with Lynn and as the photos show, the very next day we tackled Mount Kinabalo (4095m). It was a strenuous couple of days to say the least. We meet our guide and spent 5hrs climbing to the resthouse. Unfortunately the heavens opened with about 3km to go and we got drenched. Fortunately our stuff was in plastic bags in our day sacks but, everything got soaked. I even poured water out of my torch! The next morning we were up at 2am to begin our climb for sunrise. The views were stunning and the altitude didn't affect us too much. I had kind of thought that the hard bit was over, but I think we all agreed descending was harder on the legs, and I would even consider doing some training the next time. As for the girls I don't think there'll be a next time!! It was Lynn's first and last hill/mountain.
We also visited the east of Borneo to visit an Orangutan Rehabilitation sanctuary and also spent a night on Turtle Island. Learning about their conservation efforts, seeing mothers lay their 100 eggs and releasing new borns into the big blue sea.
The final part of our leg with Lynn was flying to Bali, Indonesia. We decided to treat ourselves and spent the first 2 nights in the Mercure Hotel on Kuta beach. I think the infinity pool on the rooftop clinched the deal for this hotel. Bali was very touristy and once we got over the business and street hagglers we really enjoyed the place. Kuta beach is a 7km stretch on sand, and the sea is filled with surfers of all levels. The 3 of us even got ourselves involved. We hired an instructor from the beach and hit the waves. Will, the instrutor, would push us through the waves and line us up for the next oncoming wave. He got more than he bargained for when Kim forgot to hold onto her board and parked her bum in his face! Soo funny! I'm glad to say we all managed to get up, but a lot more practice needed! Bali has a great night life so we obviously sampled some great food and some local nightspots.
We hired Will to give us a little tour of the south penninsula. We did some water sports in Nusa Dua, rubber ring and the flying fish (a crazy inflatable mattress you lye on and sail 20m into the air....great fun). We also went to a beautiful coastal temple and watched some local dancing during sunset at Uluwatu.
Lynn managed to get a bit of retail therapy in before she headed back to Norn Iron and we flew off to Flores in the east of Indonesia. It was a great 3 weeks with big sis.
