In the morning we went for a walk to a patisserie in Antibes that we spotted the day before to get a freshly baked breakfast. The walk was longer than we thought but at least we didn't feel guilty ordering two croissants and a chocolate pastry.
We had initially planned for three days on beach in southern France, but our bums were still sore from sitting on the pebbles the day before, so after a final tour of town it was "au revoir" to Antibes and "bonjour" to site seeing again. We headed towards the outskirts of Nimes where there is a famous bridge / Roman aqueduct called the Pont du Gard. The drive was very pretty and France seems to have the most bush country out of any of the European countries we have visited so far, which are instead all heavily farmed between cities.
The Pont du Gard itself is quite grand and in very good condition for something two thousand years old. There were a lot of families picnicking there and swimming and canoeing in the river. We arrived too late in the day for any of that nonsense, but we enjoyed our walk around anyway.
A brief side note about money: New Zealand is way ahead of Europe when it comes to paying for things with plastic money. Over here we've had mixed success paying with our travel card and a particular failure is the French motorway toll system. I really hate carrying change around, and every time I spend a note and add yet more coins to my wallet, a small part of me dies inside. They even still have 1 and 2 cent coins over here! However, today we had great success spending (lots and lots and lots of) coins at both the motorway and the supermarket, where I handed over my remaining 86c to square up. Yeah!
Our destination that night was Avignon where we made fish and pan fried chips (made from the last of our potatoes) for dinner. The recipe is a lot less exciting this time so you'll have to figure it out for yourselves. We saw a top deck bus in the desert which was our camp ground and we planned to take a photo of it the next morning, but they get up way too early for us and they were gone by the time we were up (8:30 ish).

Dad B Don't say "Bum" Brett - it's rude. Say "Bottom" or "Arse".
