Well good day to those who have decided to follow us on the blog. We will try to keep it nice a short so that you dont get too bored zzzz.
Ok so first things first we arrived at Changi airport on Sat 9th Oct at around 9pm and wandered around the airport looking for way out into the city...(this is difficult when you take as many travel pills and on the lack of sleep we were on!) Humidity also hit us like a tonne of bricks - !!
Once on shuttle we headed to our hostel called Rucksack Inn - Off Clarke Quay. Got a quick tour round the hostel and where our free toast and purified water was (Oh yes - quality digs!) then we were invited to play monopoly cards till we dragged our tired bums to bed!
Sunday 10th Oct
We headed off to visit Sentosa Island with aussie Josh & Hawaii Mikey - Sentosa island was a bit like a tacky resort you could find anywhere but it was nice and sunny and the MRT train thing was quick and air conned so no complaints there!
Best experience though was the fish reflexology which involved little tiny fish nibbling the dead skin on our feet. Was awesome tickly experience and although sounds a bit gross we came out with baby bum soft feet! Also we ended up all the way over the other side of the world going bowling! Yep. We do not lie - the Mikey guy was all about it apparently and he paid so we couldnt complain!
Monday 11 Oct
We decided that team Brenn were gonna do some siteseeing for the real men - which involved alot of walking and in the end through the humidity 2 very sweaty bettys that had Monica from friends hair! WINNER! Although was pretty awesome we went around Clarke Quay and saw the Merlion. Alex also seemed to find herself as the 'token white person' where a fair few Malaysian men wanted a photo with her. No stupidly she did not charge :(
We also saw this HUGE hotel shaped like a boat on top of these 3 tower blocks, bloody massive and $20 dollars just to see rich people swim in the pool - no we did not pay! Next stop was Raffles hotel where we indeed had our cheeky singapore sling in the long bar - it was stupidly expensive so we did share one - but hey in the photos it looks like we both got one!
Next stop was the singapore hotel on the 70th floor where there is a restaurant and small viewing area. This was a pretty awesome view and have to admit was pretty much worth the journey earpopping up! After some lunch at Mr Curry we headed back to the hostel for a hair defuzz & skin cooling session.
In the evening we headed out to China town with Josh & Gabriel, China town was not bad had a few cool knickknacks but while walking around for somewhere to eat we ended up in a Thai restaurant! Yes. Thai.
Tuesday 12 Oct
After building work was nice enough to start at what felt like 5am we both were up and dressed for our next sweaty adventure. First trip was to the Botanical gardens which from the MRT was a wee bit of a mission but meant we got to see Orchard Road which has all the 'posh' shops. When we got there we had a wander around seeing all the lovely foilage - oh and Alex made Jo jump by yelping out as a big lizard strolled by - and yes it was MASSIVE :) The thing that impressed us the most though was the loos! - they had the basins outside - well with no windows or anything so anyone could walk/drive by and look in, cheeky indeed!
In the evening we headed off to the night safari where we met a random woman at the MRT station - we obviously look like tourists - who offered us a shuttle and tickets to the safari but as she had no ID or t-shirt or any clue we were quite dubious to her plans...however we got in anyway! (Yes mothers we were fine!)
The animals themselves were sometimes a wee bit difficult to see as it was in the dark! But the impressive sights were the hippos, elephants, giraffes the big animals if you get our gist! Also along the way we ended up adopting an indian lady who we discovered afterwards could not take a photo to save her life! After the tram ride and the animal show we headed back to the hostel where as usual we got ready in the dark while being subtly watched by the chinese man on the top bunk who was on his laptop for the 4th day/night running!!
Wednesday 13 Oct
Our last full day in Singapore :( we decided to head over to Little India, Jo was very unimpressed, Alex liked the shiney colourful things! We both agreed however that the curry smelt good but we would not be returning -can't beat the Shuhag!!!
Then it was back to our usual haunt Clarke Quay - which we chilled out around and munched on weird ice cream while watching the world go by. Then for dinner as we had a few dollars to spend we thought we would treat ourselves to a dinner along the quay. We decided on Hot Stones - which involved us cooking our dinner ourselves and being charged double for the pleasure! We ordered steak, lobster and scallops so Jo got to try a few things she hadnt before but mistake was the chicken as god knows if we cooked it right - not the best thought out plan for a flight the next morning!!
We ended up going for a last stroll past the unaffordable bars - one which involved gold wheelchair seats, intravenus drips as drinks and clinic style decor. However we ended up going for a drink with one of our roommates Dominic who we questioned many times over the chicken cooking fiasco! However he was too distracted by telling us in depth how much he earnt on the docks Zzzzz (If Britvic ladies are reading this - yep hes the dude that climbs up the containers!!)
However we were more interested by the yumminess of the cocktails. - WINNER!
Thursday 14 Oct
We departed with Dominic to the airport at god knows what time all we can remember was it was early. We had an hour to kill before the flights, which mainly involved several trips to the loo - yes the raw chicken had taken its revenge! :( Lesson one learnt.
The flight was going to be an interesting one.....
