Summary
The start of our Polish adventure didn't start too well due to weather, we spent 2 days bunkered down in a campsite in Zakopane avoiding the constant rain and a couple of hail storms. We did finally score some nice weather on the afternoon of the 3rd day so we set off on a afternoon hike up the High Tatras, which was really good. We would have like to have stayed a bit longer and explore the High Tatras a bit more but we really needed to keep moving.
Aushwitz is a terribly moving and confronting experience but something everyone should experience if you appreciate life. The 3 hour tour is definitely worth it but the place is swarming with tourists so it did feel somewhat rushed. The day after we spent the morning down a salt mine in Krakow that was really cool. 130m deep and there's even a chapel at the bottom.
The following 3 days was spent driving north towards Lithuania. We ran into a issue with the car, the speedo cable snapped about 40k's north of Krakow and with the car being French and 22 years old the chances of finding another 1 are pretty much zero to none. After a few failed attempts at parts suppliers, we managed to 'dodgy' the existing one so it works sort of. We'll see how it goes………
