29 years and a few weeks ago we met in Wellington and it's the first time we've both been there since - so quite exciting to revisit the city together. It was a short visit unfortunately and though some people had ship excursions booked we were just as happy to jump on the coach to the city drop off point and have an early stroll around the Oriental Parade waterfront and watch the sun glinting on the harbour near the boathouses. It was so early on a Saturday morning (7 am 8 am?) that very little was open until around 10 am. We strolled up and down Cuba Street which appears to be doing it tough and as with everywhere, Covid has sent a lot of businesses to the wall. We hit some thrift and vintage shops and though it wasn't on the list (would it ever be on anyone's list?) found a quirky stained glass/lead light fish for our apartment, some boardshorts for James which were a 'need to have' since his last pair fell off him in the Cook islands. And some earrings for me - just because they were in the counter at the shop flogging boardshorts. It was a super morning out and about and but I was starting to feel the strain of multiple port days one after the other - heaven forbid I deteriorate again. So we headed back to the ship an hour or so before it's departure and had lunch onboard. It was huge fun to be eating lunch while in harbour so we chose a porthole table and enjoyed the Wellington views (we usually avoid this spot due to the ocean lurching up and down, especially with nearby cyclones). We had a club sandwich and chips which was executed perfectly and the first club sandwich either of us has had in years. After the excitement of multiple port days we chillaxed all afternoon and road tested James's new boardshorts in the spa jacuzzi. We are waiting for the other shoe to drop and to hear an announcement that the ship wouldn't be allowed in to Milford Sound due to biosecurity concerns (which seems to happen to most ships these days).
