Busted from the game last night, everyone sleeps in until suddenly there's a knock at the door - the cleaning staff are here - it's 10am already?!?! We're checking out of our tiny Shinjuku apartment today and spending our last night in a hotel across the park. There's a whirlwind of crazy as we pack up and get out of the apartment, we're across the park and drop our bags at our next hotel, then we're off to Harajuku for a bit.
The girls just duck into Takes***a street while Fid and I go and hunt his new favourite Chicken Heart Yakitori. An hour later the girls re-emerge from their shopping, what do they do with their time? We're off to the Edo-Tokyo museum.
What a fantastic place, such a great mix of information, interesting display and tactile things to get involved with. We lost the kids a couple of times as they wandered in and through the displays. The kids are studying a classroom from the Edo period, when they realise there are no chairs, it's all squatting. Fid is all wrapped up in the Shogun family history and the way the warlords managed their territories. We cross the floor to enter the Tokyo era, so much of what we see would make sense in Sydney too.
We've been here two weeks without ordering from a ticket machine, the soba place at the station is our first attempt, Fid goes for the Duck Udon - who is this kid? Emerson insists on showing the whole restaurant how much she is enjoying her noodles by slurping as loudly as she can, Gab is cringing and visibly wincing with each mouthful. We're 10minutes away from Sky Tree and it's Pokemon Centre, we couldn't forget it - Fid has been reminding us of the proximity for the last 4 hours.
Fid is off to the Pokemon Centre, Gab has a shop while Boo and I head to the Beer Museum. On the way we discover there's a Beer Festival on today - a mini Oktoberfest in April. Festival food has a grip on Boo, she feasts on some monster chocolate marshmallows, this won't end well! It starts to rain putting an end to our beer festival so we head inside to the Beer Museum. We lose Fid for another hour at the Pokemon centre, then we're off to our hotel.
Boo found this place on the web months ago, a Hello Kitty Princess suite at the Keio Plaza Hotel She's so excited she made a video of her entering and taking in the room. Once again the two of them are gushing about the decorations in the room. From the Pink rose carpet and curtains, to the wallpaper and kitty amenities - kettle, humidifier, scales, the two of them are whipping each other up into a frenzy. They got special Keio Plaza Kitty dolls to keep, and slippers, and pens, and and and... They have their own piles on each of their beds, piling up all their swag. Now they're fighting over who keeps the pen. It's an hour before Fid and I convince them we should get out for dinner soon.
We find a brilliant place for dinner with all the chicken heart yakitori Fid can handle and a magnificent statue of Sammy Davis Jr floating above the bar. It's 11 before we realise we should get back and enjoy the room. It's our last day tomorrow before we fly home, we'll be sleeping in then making the most of last afternoon in Shinjuku.
