If I lived here I'd think differently, but these past two days have delivered perfect weather. Yesterday was bright and sunny for Disneyland, then today was the foggy misty kind of day that I always picture Hong Kong as being in.
First thing today was a visit to Sam's tailors for a suit and some shirts. I got measured at 11:30, then was back in the store at 1pm for a preliminary fitting! I'm dur back at 10:30 tomorrow for a final fitting, impressive service! Mark met us at Sam's at 1pm and got roped into some shirts too :)
My dad has this story of getting shamed by a guy at the markets when he tried to haggle. Today I got totally skinned by this unassuming lady. I should be great at dividing by 8, but I got myself trapped in some calculations while this wiz of baffling the tourists confused me into paying twice what I should have for some Jade horoscope figurines. At one stage she had her fingers heading into my wallet to help me count the notes!
So Kowloon is what I might expect of China, with the odd out of place shopping mall. Loved it. Then we caught the MTR over to the island. I think this is more like what Gab expected of Hong Kong :) The Landmark is full of designers I've only ever heard of on AbFab, or not at all. We went hunting the Apple Store a few blocks away in IFC Mall, I stumbled into a jeweler, clocked a watch that looked tricky with exposed mechanics. I asked how much, $2.1m - $260k. I acted like maybe I'd be back later after I have a coffee and headed out :)
From Central we crossed the island past Repulse bay and out to Stanley. The great part about HK being at the beginning of our holiday is we have to lug everything from here for the next few months, worked great at limiting our shopping at Stanley, but some bargains were too hard to resist :)
We said goodbye to Mark after some dinner on the water and took a slow Taxi back over to Kowloon. On the way I realised all the gadget shopping I want to do is just a few blocks from our Hotel! Gadget browsing tomorrow then :)
