We have spent a few days in the central highlands at a city called Dalat. Which was pretty cool, the city itself was nothing particularly special but we organised a trek into the mountains which was just great. 15km through pine forest and coffee plantations and climbing mountains that were around 1600m. We were fit to drop at the end of it. We had a couple of guides who were really helpful and knowledgable. To say thanks at the end of the day we had a few beers together and shouted them dinner. It's a cool thing to do, as you can find out a lot about the inner workings and culture of Vietnam.
We walked through some spectacular scenery and over some scary bridges like the ones that you see in the movies.....long and high with quite a few slats missing and the bridge swaying in the breeze over the top of a big river!!! Blimey crikes, it sent my vertigo into overdrive but once you had walked a little it was really, really cool! Unfortunately the camera was still broken but the Amercan lady that was on the trek with us took lots of pictures which she will email over to us soon. The climate here was a lot cooler which was a refreshing change......it was still warm but without the humidity so was a lot nicer.
We also went to the Crazy House which was a very bizarre and surreal experience. It was a maze of stairs and walkways and little doors into very odd rooms like 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' but the bears had red eyes so if you slept there in the night you could either have a bear or a giant kangaroo staring at you! Very very odd indeed but lovely views of Dalat from above.
We are going to head on a bus to Nha Trang for some sun, sea and sand next....
