So it was time to leave Canberra and head up to the most iconic City in Australia, Sydney. Before we got on our way to city there was one more thing I wanted to see in the Canberra area which was a Nasa Deep Space Communication Satellite complex which held the largest dish in the southern hemisphere, it was very cool to see. Right up in the mountains it was a very scenic drive as well.
After that it was a boring motorway drive to Sydney. We arrived in Bondi in the evening just enough time to unpack and grab some dinner and settle in to our Beach Pad for the next week.
The next morning we were up early as we had to pick up David and Jenny from the Airport. We got back to Bondi by 9am, time for some brekie and a coffee, then we set out to do some sightseeing. We hopped on board a bus to Circular Quay where all the ferries head out of. Ferries are really good way to see the city and a great way to get around. Staring at the bridge and the Opera House I found it really hard to believe that I was on public transport and for a lot of people this was their way to work…not too bad.
We got the ferry to Darling Harbour and walked around to see all the boats at the Maritime Museum, had lunch in the CBD and then watched the light show in the evening. We arrived in Sydney purely by luck at the same time as the Sydney Vivid Festival which is a light and laser show where they beam images and flowing graphics onto all the building including the Opera House which was so amazing!
Next day it was time to head out of the city and we drove south to Botany Bay National Park, we hiked to the coast and sat and whale watched, I did a bit of climbing on the rocks as well. We sat a while and then we got lucky and saw 2 humpback whales they were quite far away so didn't manage to get a really good photo but it was so amazing. In the evening we cooked up some pizza and had some wine chilled out.
Thursday was a more relaxed day, we took the ferry way down the river towards the Olympic park, and then introduced to David and Jenny to AFL down the pub. Was not a good game Swans trashed the Cats by 100!
Friday we went to see the famous Blue Mountains. A two hour drive west of the City is well worth the drive. Words and photos cannot do justice to how amazingly breath-taking the views were. We hiked down a cliff to see the falls and then we drove on to see the three sisters and few more look outs. It was nice to show David and Jenny a slice of the Australia that we have fallen in love with. Cooked up some nasi gorging for dinner, had a few beers and just for a change a stuck on the footy.
Saturday, another relaxed day, went to the Saturday farmers market, then I went surfing for the first time ever! It was hard work but great fun. Then cooked up some dinner, and relaxed.
