Brenton Kovacs's Travels
20th
We start our last morning at Muyuna Lodge at 6am with a canoe ride up the river. It is so quiet without the outboard motor screaming away. It was so peaceful floating down the river listening to the birds. After breakfast we go on our last walk into the Jungle. We travel a few miles down the river where we are dropped off and our walk starts. Our guide is trying to get us to a group of monkeys, but we are cut off by the rising water, which has flooded the path.
Now its hot and humid, and we are being attacked my mosquitoes. Our Guide doesn't want to give up so we keep walking. Alans shirt is absolutely drenched, and we are running out of water. Finally he gives up and we head back to the river. By this time we are both exhausted, and so relieved to see the boat waiting for us.
We pack our bags and have lunch with our new found friends from the USA and the UK. The boat ride back to Iquitos is smooth going with the driver getting us back in 3 hours.
After docking we are dropped off at our apartment where will spend the next 3 nights.

Nothing planned for the next few days. We hit the Belen market which is a real eye opener. Probably one of the dirtiest and busiest we have visited.
We find a café called Dawn on the Amazon. The food is amazing, and so are the smoothies. We will eat here for the rest of our stay, that’s how good it is.

It rain for most of the night. I expected to find the streets flooded, but there was no sign of water. The day is spent eating and walking around the old town

Up at 6am. Have to be at the airport by 7am. The flight leaves at 9am for Lima. We have a 2 hour wait in Lima before heading to Bogota, Colombia.
Both flights are good, and we arrive at 4.30pm. A taxi gets us to our apartment. Now this is where the fun begins. This place has no water pressure, and no hot water, great.

After a rather sleepless night I get up at 6am. No to try and find another place. After many hours on the net I get a full refund for the place we are in and find another apartment not too far away.
Our new place is really nice, with plenty of hot water. Looks like we will sleep well tonight. After unpacking we try and catch a bus to the old city. Well this is a daunting experience. It would have to be one of the worst we have been on., but we do get to the city. I cannot believe how many people are on the streets. There are tens of thousands of people pushing and shoving their way past all the street sellers. I have never seen such chaos. After 20 minutes we emerge at the old city, which is rather interesting. Some very old building with great architecture.
Its getting dark so we head back to the bus station, knowing full well what’s ahead of us. After battling the crowds we board the bus and the trip back is ok.
