Yesterday I wrote this blog but it didn't save! Here we go again, only this time we're on a 300km 5hour trip to Pushkar -a relaxed, small city in Rajastan- based around a lake and a single bazaar (high street in simple terms) Sinead is really excited and has restricted her water intake, due to limited toilet breaks!
So, back to yesterday, well it all started with a 5.30am get up after a 1am bedtime due to too much local whiskey, BBQ chicken (amazing) and mosi bites!
The day of the Taj Mahal!
Jumped straight into the car and down into Agra for a banging local Chai Tea, but like no other. The dude has his own secret recipe which attracts a lot of people. The freshly grated ginger in the morning and full fat milk was so good! We swaped over from taxi into a rickshaw with a driver like no other Indian- HONEST!
Dropped off down a side road to beat all the traffic and it was here I realised my sense of smell was back, after a week of snot and boy it was rough! Our guide jumps out to get our tickets and me and Sinead join the queues- separate of course because you ladies can't be touched up by the ageing local guards like me! Ladies queue was a joke, so I had 5 minutes to stand and take in the crowds and the baboon with the red bum looking for a victim, while I waited for Sinead to be searched for any contraband. Weirdly, only phone, keys, camera and money are allowed in. This included no fags -unlucky shin!!
Inside we stood, looking and thinking, where is she? We followed the crowds as the North, West and East gates met. Turning South we caught a glimpse of her through red marble arch, WOW! Walking towards her she got better and better, unlike most girls! Her curves, her beauty, like no other!
I refer to her as a she because like most her sites of beauty in the world, she stands confidently in her glory, alone and proud, nothing else needed! I was in awe! The kind of girl you'd take home to your parents!
Bang! Back to reality!
Within seconds, I was soon reminded that this was India by a local trying to take pictures of me with her or sell me a guided tour! c*** blocked)
We moved on and down closer where there are pools of water showing her reflection, it was a stunning sight! Sinead couldn't wait to find the bench that Lady Di sat on to pose herself. It was soon easy to spot with a mass of internationals waiting, unorderly, to take there turn!
We carried on with the promise to return when it was quieter. Up close we took a wall around her to check her credentials! Another smell soon took our breath away, trust it to be coming from her rear! A swamp river!
Back around the front and inside, it was dark and busy. The marble inlayed tomb taking centre stage. We didn't satay in long and decided to take a pit stop back outside, perched on her hip! Sinead's favourite also appeared- a pigeon! So with further a do, we took towards the white, marble bench, but wait, there was two and the guides inside weren't sure which she actually sat on!!!
Picture taken after a French was pushed aside we took a final walk around the grounds before leaving.
People question the 750rupees (£8) you pay to go inside, but she was magnificent! That can't even get you into the cinema at go and Warwick Castle don't get me started! £30+ For?
After returning to the hotel, had breakfast, smelt the stagnant sewage and checked out we were back into the car and on a 300km trip to Ranthambore- Tiger Land!
