What can i say! This place was so good I visited it twice! For a start, its absoltely beautiful! One of the first things you see is the beach which is white and long and amazing! But there's so much more!
First of all they have a cablecar! There's one big mountain on the island (800ish meters) and the view from the top is out of this world! If I ever propose to anyone I'm going to do it at the top of that cablecar! Second of all the people are out of this world! The Malays are even cooler than the Thais! Very, very laid back! And very sober! However, unlike the rest of Malaysia, alcohol is very cheap (as the island is on the Thai boarder and hence duty free). This means that it also boasts a wide selection of bars and nightclubs playing some good live music and disco tracks!
On my first visit I got to meet up with my friend Fia and her boyfriend her are both uber cool! They have been wroking in thailand ofr 1 year now in dive schools and they are were working on a sailing boat when I met them! They let me stay there for the night! It was so peaceful and beautiful! The water sparkled with phospherescenet creatures and in the morning they showed me an archer fish! These fish are soo cool! You can see the wikipedia entry here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archerfish. They shoot water out of their mouths to literally shoot down insects! They managed to shoot a peice of bread off my head from 2 feet away and 2 feet up! It was so crazy!
There was amazing club on the island that played really good live rock music! Wierdly it looked like a Swiss Chalet trapped inside a nightclub! Everything was wood! Another highlight were the waterfalls! We went to two and they were ace! Really warm and you could jump off the rocks into the water! On the way there I saw a monitor lizard that was 2 meters (6 feet long)! It was just walking in the road!
There are some quite reasonable and very classy resorts on the island that were a little out of my budget but are definitely worth visiting!
Really really cool!
