Wednesday 3rd July - hot day forecast.
Headed out to Toledo- 70 kms from Madrid.
World Heritage site (UNESCO)- one of the oldest towns in Europe- buildings from almost all periods of history- Arabian, Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance and Baroque.
El Greco painted one of his most famous works housed in St. Tomé Church - " The Burial of The Lord of Orgaz"
The Synagogue of Santa Maria la Blanca is Mudejar in style - Jews didn't build. The Monastery is beautiful surrounded by gorgeous cloister. The town is a labyrinth of narrow cobbled alley ways - which probably worked back in the 15th century - but cars drive thru the town - fast!!- with so many tourists it's a wonder no one is skittled.
Last night was interesting - at least 10 police cars sirens blaring sped past apt - plus a helicopter- and our screamer/babbler could be heard in the distance. Then thunder and lightening - had a little trouble sleeping
