Well this is our last day in Borneo, we have the strange pancakes for breakfast again, and we pack our room and store our bags at the back of the hostel. Our flight isn't until late afternoon so we go off and explore Kota Kinabalu, Sabrina, Sian and I want to go for a massage but when we leave at 9:30am we find every is closed, so we went to Starbucks for coffee and cake until they open at ten. When they are opened we decided to have a full body massage, bacam (suction cups) and a manicure and pedicure, in pounds this costs in total around £15.
After we head to the main mall to have a look around and to buy some souvenirs, I buy some Bornean tea and a t-shirt, there isn't a great deal to buy, and we do have a lovely bubble tea though. We leave the shopping centre and have a look around the main market, it is very hot but there is so much to see. The first half is various foods, some stalls are cafes. After this the stalls are selling beads, jewellery, clothes etc. As it's getting late we decided to go for lunch, we head back to the Italian restaurant and have pizza, this time we sit outside which is lovely as we don't want to waste the sunshine.
Thankfully everyone gets back to the step in lodge on time, so it's time to say our goodbyes to the staff and to get on our coach to the airport. Our flight is at 7:30pm so we have plenty of time to kill. Kota Kinabalu airport is very small so there isn't really anything to look at or to buy. We are late leaving as there is quite a bad storm, when we finally take off the flight is very bumpy and there is a lot of turbulence which scares quite a few of the pupils.
We land in Brunei over an hour late, so we have to grab our hand luggage and run to our next aeroplane, we just make it as the airport staff are great and rush us through bag checks etc. When we get on the aeroplane we find out we are half an hour late for our flight but the pilot decided to wait for us as it's such a big group. We all have the same seats as last time, I'll really miss Borneo but it's nice to be able to sit down and relax.
Sian has what she calls 'knockout' tablets, so a few of us take one to help us sleep when it is night time in the UK. I sleep pretty well, the only downside is that I fall asleep during my dinner and when I wake up it has been taken away. This time we know we can leave our hand luggage on the aeroplane during our short stop in Dubai which makes it much easier as we don't have to wait for our bags to be scanned. As I'm classy I lay on the floor and have a quick nap while we wait.
When we get back on I go back to sleep, I wake up for food, this time a pastry slice and afterwards I watch a film. The airline is very good, there are frequent snacks and drinks. It's a good job I am on the aisle as I walk around quite a bit to stop my legs aching, I drink a lot as well as aeroplanes are very dehydrating. On this final leg Amy breaks her seat, the poor airline staff member who is helping her can't help but laugh, and quite a few of our kids have a giggle.
When we finally touch down in London Sian realised at immigration that she has left her passport on the aeroplane, we go back but the plane is already taking on its new passengers. It takes about two hours to get her passport back, a bit annoying, but these things happen. Thankfully the rest of the group collect or bags for us, it does mean I miss saying good bye to Sabrina which I was quite sad about.
Jeff and Sean pick us up again, Tommy is annoyed he had to wait because he wants a burger king breakfast. Luckily Tommy is okay as we do get that burger king breakfast, I have a cheese burger with mini hash browns which were lovely, I was naughty and bought a doughnut too.
We get back to Melton in pretty good time, most people are being picked up by their parents, mum and dad pick me up and we go straight to the new harvester for dinner. I'm so tired it's unbelievable, we get home and it is only 2pm, I decided the earliest I'm going to let myself go to bed is 7:30 pm.
