It's an early start 7:30am breakfast so we can get ready for our transfer to Gaya Island. Breakfast is a kind of pancake with jam, the jam is quite odd as it isn't overly sweet and actually doesn't have a great deal of flavour, and we also have several tiny bananas. I'm still being sick, which the kids are finding quite funny, thanks for the support guys.
We get into three minibuses to drive to the harbour, typically ours is the one with broken air conditioning. This morning it doesn't seem as hot, which is nice. We take two boats across, the water is fairly calm, but I'm just thankful I bought a bin bag as yep, you guessed it, I'm sick again.
We arrive and there is a long wooden jetty for the boat to pull up, the island looks lovely, we are clearly in a cove on the island as our area is surrounded by hills covered in rainforest. On the boat ride over you could see some lovely views.
On arrival we meet the whole team at Dive Down Below who sort out where we are sleeping etc. There is a girls ten and a boy's tent, Amy and Rob complain that they have to share the tent with the students, I'm not entirely sure what they expected.
Once we are all settled in its time for our scuba brief. Once done we all get the right size flippers etc and get ready to scuba for the first time, I stay behind with those who aren't diving as I can't due to being sick, the first test today is a skills test, so basically putting the equipment on and using it properly in the water and doing things such as taking out your mouth piece and replacing it underwater.
We had quite a good time while people were diving, there were wild boar and monkeys roaming the area, the island dog was scaring of the boar when it came too close.
When everyone returns we sit down to a meal of sweet and sour chicken, a few of the pupils complain that there are bones in the chicken, who knew chickens had bones?
After lunch everyone had the choice of returning to scuba or exploring the island, I had a lovely time exploring and lounging in the shallow water near the beach. This evening's meal was spagboll which everyone enjoyed, it was very nice. Afterwards we played some somewhat disastrous getting to know you games, but it was quite funny because it was so awkward.
