9.30am and everyone was on the bus and ready to go....this was set to be a big day ending with the biggest night we would have in New Zealand..........the Poo Pub. This night is known about by everyone, even those who do not do the Kiwi Experience, is it world famous....and the biggest fancy dress party possibly of our lives (ok that might be a slight exaggeration, but it was still set to be huge!)! That morning our theme was set, something beginning with 'p' and minds were whirring all morning with the prize of a free Canyon Swing in Queenstown at stake.
First stop of the day was a short walk to a seal colony, on arrival at the colony we could not see much and then realised that actually there were loads of seal, just they were camoflaged by the rocks. After picking up a few people who had been horse trekking for the morning, we then made our way to pancake rocks and blowholes. This is a 25minute loop walk taking in awesome views and some rocks that are free standing in the ocean and look like stacks of pancakes! After some food in the cafes we then went to Greymouth. This was the town where we were given 1 hour 15minutes in order to decide on, find and buy our costumes for that night. I had decided on a 'party' and Katie was a 'pirate'. It seemed to be a race against time to get everything that everyone needed but we got there in the end, and only about 10 minutes over time everyone was back on the bus and on the move towards 'Poo Pub'. Now 'Poo Pub' is known as this because it is the Mahinapua Hotel and 'Poo pub' is a lot easier to say!lol! About 5pm we arrived and after being shown to our rooms and meeting the 84 year old owner legend that is Les, we had an hour and half left before dinner. This time was spent watching the sunset on the beach and then going to see the lake as would be our only chance to do so.
Dinner, well what can i say other than amazing?! One massive piece of steak cooked to perfection and then a buffet of venison stew, pasta, veg, bread rolls, jacket potato cooked with cheese....mmmmmmmmmm AMAZING!!!!!! this is definately why people put on weight whilst they are away...nights like this, amazing food and lots of alcohol. By the time we were all set and in our costumes it was about 9.30pm and we made our way into the bar that was to host our party. 90 people all in fancy dress in one little bar..........what a night! Everyone looked so good and most people had made a real effort with all sorts of outfits coming out. Our group of 13 consisted of playing cards, party, pirates, pegs, pinocchio, playboy, popeye and a picnic basket and Lauren our driver was dressed as Pebbles from Flinstones. During the course of the night i managed to bump my head on the bed when Katie and I popped back to our room, all i remember is the two of us finding it absolutely hilarious and me saying 'its a good job im drunk because that would have hurt a lot more'.........unfortunately the pain definately made up for it the next morning when a lump had appeared!lol! All in all this night definately lived up to its legend and was an awesome night, enjoyed by all and finishing about 3am. Not so good when all had to be on the bus to leave at 9am next morning!!!!!!!!!
