Really had such a magical February and Valparaiso truly became my home! I loved having a routine from going to work and making local friends to having a sandwich lady who knew my order!
Mi trabajo
Can´t express how impressed I am with the YMCA in Chile and all of the great programs and people they have. They are really focused on helping the community and proactive in adding and improving services. I´m just happy I was able to help out a bit on their marketing material and fundraising. I also really enjoyed doing some graphic design work.
Los niños locos
I was able to spend some time with the precious boys at one of the Y´s foster homes. Sure they were usually fighting, laughing at my Spanish or changing the rules to the games but they are so precious. Thanks to the help of Dayne, another US volunteer who is fluent in Spanish, I was able to lean a lot of the boys´ stories. SO heartbreaking!! Some don´t even know their parents or birthdays. My time playing ¨plastic bottle games¨ (they literally destroy all other toys, games or balls) was such a small part of their lives but I know I´ll remember them always.
Mi amor
One of the most magical parts of February was Jose Luis - mi Chilean pololo. He is one of the kindest and most refreshing people I´ve ever known and we had so many great times! Explored the beach of Horcon, country town of Olmué, Valpo´s ascensores and harbor, the wine region of Casablanca and so much more!! Even got to spend my birthday having a great BBQ with his sweet family!
Just proves that life is looking out for us when we need it the most. I´m so grateful for him and so comforted knowing that once my head and heart are finally sorted out there are incredible people out there I can spend forever with.
