We got another un-VIP bus today from Vang Vieng to Vientiane the Laos capital. Apparently there isn't much there but this is where we needed to fly to Vietnam from. The journey was only supposed to take 3-4 hours but it took more like 5. Still a lot less then we are used to so it wasn't too bad. We had a little nap then James insisted on listening to Notorious B.I.G's album. I was feeling more live lounge but he insisted.
Luckily whilst waiting for the bus we ran across the street and grabbed some tuna baguettes or else I think we would have had some hunger pains.
We reached Vientiane about 2.30pm feeling pretty confident we would be able to find our hotel without the need for a tuk tuk. A few minutes later we had reached the place google maps had lead us to but the hotel was nowhere in site. How brilliant.
We walked around for another 45 minutes as Kara was very adamant we weren't going to pay for a tuk tuk as we knew it wouldn't be far away!
After sweating out all the water from our bodies we gave in & asked a tuk tuk he charged 30,000 Kip to go 1 minute down the road. I was so sad but massively relieved to finally be there!
Our hotel is nice, Small but better than the one in Vang Vieng. The bed makes the most horrendous noises when you turn over init but was pretty comfy. We struggled to get good wifi first of all but after a quick chat with one of the workers we managed to get that sorted.
We headed straight back out to grab some food and found an awesome place called Sputnik Burger. It had a Volkswagen beetle outside that had been cut in half and seats put in so you would sit and eat. Much to every who passed by's amusement. We didn't want to eat to much as we had decided to go out for a nice meal in the evening to we ordered two mini burgers! Sounded perfect.
When they came mine was definitely mini and James was definitely massive! He swears he ordered 2 mini ones but I think he was lying… ;)
After our burgers we didn't really know what to do so went for a little walk around to try and find some things to do. There is nothing here! But just as we were walking to the river we caught a glimpse of the most amazing sunset! We got the very end of it so are hoping to go back about 5pm tomorrow to watch it in full.
Just next to the river, the night market was setting up so we decided to have a look around it before it started to get too busy. Kara was in heaven they had so many scarves! (Fake designer scarves but still, she was super excited). So we ended up walking around for over an hour and buying 3 scarfs (not knowing how these were going to fit in my bag) and also a nice little shirt to wear out in the evening. It was such a massive market and much better than ones we had been to before, mainly because they specialised in clothes!
We went back to our hotel after being out for a lot longer than expected. Even though its so warm here in the evenings I couldn't not wear one of my scarves so kitted up in my fake Louis scarf we headed for our nice meal down the road.
It was a Spanish grill house and had great reviews. We're pretty sure it was the owner who greeted us when we walked in (mainly because she was the only Spanish one in there). She gave us a table upstairs. Kara saw they had Pinot Grigio on the menu and got very excited. She hasn't been able to find a nice wine since we've been travelling so she decided to give it a go, and thank god it was glorious! This was a very happy moment.
We decided to go for a seafood Paella for 2. This was a great decision as it was amazing! It had some little baby octopuses in it though, like tiny little things! I like octopus but wasn't brave enough to try it so I put them all on James's portion :-)
We felt very satisfied after our amazing meal and at this point it was quite late. With nightlife not really happening in Vientiane we decided to call it a night and head back to catch up on our blogs. This didn't end up happening as our wifi was so rubbish! But tomorrow we are flying to Vietnam so have a few things to sort out in the morning, we plan to find a nice little Cafe, fill out or Visa forms and get the blog sorted.
Check back tomorrow and see how we got on, also it will be our first night in Hanoi - Vietnam.
J&K over and out!
