We went to Dunvegan Castle mostly because we could be indoors and the weather was so horrible... the castle was interesting but I think we would have all rather been seeing the natural scenery of Skye given slightly better weather so we headed off to Cruigan beach in the rain crossing stepping stones on a boggy walk until Mummy slipped and fell on her bottom in the mud - yuck! Anyway, heading onwards we made it to another white beach...although not nearly as stu...

Having decided that the cold was too much we had headed to North Uist to be able to get a ferry to Skye. We gave up trying to find a beach in the cold and ended up sitting in a car park playing board games before heading to the small museum and visitor centre in Lochmaddy to pass the afternoon. The crossing was fairly rough and we were all fairly pleased to reach more familiar landscapes in Skye and the lovely friendly caravan park for the evening.

Heading South the landscape changes from the boggy-looking heathland to much more picturesque mountainess terrain, lochs and stunning beaches. We played a game of tennis on the 'most remote tennis court in Britain'....and then headed on to beautiful Luskentyre beach for the afternoon....and Horgabost for the most gorgeous, wild camping spot and an evening barbecue to say farewell to Harris.

An interesting, informative and interactive museum in Lews Castle. A quick look round a fairly bleak town before a swim at the well-appointed leisure centre and a supermarket visit.

Woohoo! We woke to sun and warmth and so headed straight for the beach in our t-shirts.....only for the cold and wind to arrive as soon as we did but Uig beach was beautiful and we all enjoyed it regardless of the weather....endless sands, kite flying and sand surfing. Somehow we managed to squeeze in a school visit to the Callanish Standing Stones on the way back and a well-deserved prize for M&D for completing the school's question pack!
