Well we have arrived in Australia with Perth being our first experience of life here in Australia. Looking forward to meeting up with Paul and Anne Holt, school friends of Bob's in England. We arrive Monday evening at 5.30pm and then have a day out on Tuesday with Paul and Anne
Tuesday 9th
Anne and Paul picked us up at 9am, first stop was Kings Park, great views over Perth and the Anzac War Memorial. Drove through the park past the trees individually dedicated to each and every ANZAC lost in conflict. Great tribute. Drove then to Fremantle the oldest settlement and only port in Western Australia. Saw the Round House which was the first building in the settlement. Drove Along the beaches for a while, stopped at Cottesloe Beach for Coffee, beaches here are beautiful. Then drove up the Swan River past the Wineries, stopped at Coward and Black Vineyard and tasted their Cab Sav, Shiraz and Chenin Blanc, have to say the Chenin was delightful. After that continued up into the Swan Valley, stopped at the Vines Golf and Country club, see photos of the 1st fairway and 9th Green, for lunch and a beer and then continued on our tour of the Swan Valley with Pictures of EMU's and Kangaroo's drove back into Perth and stopped at Mullaloo Beach for a drink and to watch the Sun go down over the Indian Ocean. Thanks to Anne and Paul our hosts and Guides for a great day.
Wednesday 10th
Explore Perth by CAT (Central Area Transport) the CAT has four lines, red, Blue, Yellow and Green around the City enabling tourists to visit all of the tourist spots. Benefit is it is free you just jump on and off to suit you. Our hotel was on the Yellow line, first job to find a laundry to drop of the last 5 days worth of washing. Jacks Laundry on Wellington Square did the job, washing done and ironed in 2 Hours. The lady at the laundry recommended a place for Breakfast "Toast" which was nice. We then picked up the CAT again stopping at Queen Elizabeth Quay and The Bell Tower. Then onto the WACA, Perth Mint, Parliament House and then back to Raine Sq for lunch at the Moon and Sixpence Pub. Perth is lovely, the people are really friendly and helpful and the CAT is fantastic. Dinner at the hotel, which was good.
