Departure: San Francisco, CALIFORNIA
Arrival: Benbow Lake, CALIFORNIA
We kinda figured out our time travel over the next few days to get home. And we really wanted to have a bit of fun in San Francisco, it has been such crappy weather we decided to head out for an explore to get as much out of it as we could. Ghirardelli Square was neat but I think we had the most fun down on the piers. Looking at all the old ships and learning how to tie knots. People were making new masts for the ships and fitting them up. Very neat!
WE left the city over the Golden Gate Bridge a really neat view of the city from there. Even though most of it was covered in cloud it gave us a different perspective. WE decided to take the #1 Hwy up the coast of California. Rachel was SO excited to take this road as she knew it was going to be the most amazing views. Which is was. Probably one of the highlights of the trip. Which says a lot. The towns along the coast come up every 15-20 min and they have so much character. The cliffs and waves and beaches are awe-inspiring. Just one problem…the road is very very windy and well Rachel's stomach did not enjoy this part of it at all. Just meant Bryce did all the driving this day. But we were determined to appreciate the beauty of it all the amazing thought that we were right on the very edge of the coast. Fort Bragg was Rachel's favorite town along the way, many pedestrian bridges over creeks and antique stores. Wish there was time to explore it.
We are now at a campsite near Garberville, California. And it is one of the quietest we have come across in our trip. Almost a bit too quiet kinda spooky. There is constant rustling in the bushes. We shown our lights to try and find the animal. It was so loud. And to be honest was freakin us out. Eventually our beast in the bush showed itself. MICE! Yup we were sleeping in a site full of mice. We don't know what is worse knowing it was not a cougar or knowing it was mice.
If anything the drive from San Francisco to Fort Bragg is a big recommendation if you can handle the curvy roads. Im sure many other parts of the coast are incredible as well.
Oh another great spot was Bodega Bay. Stopped for lunch! Saw the band members of Natural Vibrations. Check them out.
