I gotta start with the picture here and the last night. The plan was to enjoy a nice supper as it was a long day. I went to downtown and was a real tourist taking the city bus tour all around the city. That night, I went to the university area to eat some good food with two people I had just met from the hostel, a French man and a Japanese girl. The food was pretty good but as we were eating at a table just outside the restaurant, partly on the road, a man who was walking by had his foot run over by a woman driving a Kia, (some kind of SUV). He was in obvious pain but not seeking medical condition. We were all shocked just watching the commotion as the driver, the victim and the victim's friend were all chatting. Once I knew he was okay, I used what I had learned in my first aid training and walked over and offered him some soju. I thought it might help with the pain. He refused at first but later he accepted and actually came to our table, with his friend. What started off with just trying to make him laugh after getting run over by a vehicle began a great night. He insisted after to buy us a couple more bottles of soju and the driver wanted to buy us some more food, muscles and Korean pizza. Once we started having a little fun and many more samples of soju, two old men to our right invited themselves over to our table and paid for the rest of the meal and drinks we already had. The man who had his foot run over gave me his bracelet as a gift and that was the night in a nutshell...lots of fun and cheap! Can't go wrong with that.
As for the rest of Busan... The hostel was great. Leather couches, big kitchen, a jacuzzi tub, an unbelievable shower and view of the ocean. It was the last couple of days hanging out with Jon. He was a good mate and lots of fun to travel with. He was a walking encyclopedia and I like to ask questions so it was nice to have just as many answers as questions. We went to a fish market and was able to sample some whale for free. The taste was okay but difficult to get a real taste as they dipped in tons of salt before giving it to us. We saw tons of different types of fish. Finally, I decided to see how much some of this fish cost. I saw some decent sized fillets, ask how much and after a little confusion due to the language barrier bought two fillets for about 4 dollars. Then, I realized I didn't even ask what it was only to find out that we had picked shark, not sure what kind but it taste nice as Jon and I cooked it at the hostel.
And that's about all that I have to say about Busan. Off to Seoul on a 5 hour train ride tomorrow.
