Sorry I have not updated this, emailed people, or called in a while but strangely enough I have been flat out, I am still having a great time and doing heaps of cool stuff and getting in to a bit of mischief.
Because its been a while and im actually running out of battery sitt5ing on the bus to Van Vieng to go tubing ill just summarise the cool s*** I’ve done since last time I updated which I think was Nha Trang.
From Nha Trang I headed up to Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam to do a tour of Sapa and Halong Bay, with n half an hour of arriving I had already had two attempted scams pulled on me which gave me a real bad impression of Hanoi, so that arvo I just hung out at the back packers and ended up going for a few beers with Hendo the manager. I have to Give the Hanoi Backpacker Hostel a rap here, its an aussie ran joint the people are real helpful and they run awesome tours and were so especially to me considering my cash situation (not having any cards) they let me bill up about $300 american dollars worth of stuff on credit which was awesome, so if you ever go to Hanoi, the backpackers is a must I reckon.
I went and did 2 days trekking which was awesome, check out the photos, smoked a tobacco pipe with the locals, got blind drunk on beer and rice wine, and made some awesome new friends. I had to catch an overnight train to and from sapa and on the way home we arrived at 6 and then I was signed up for another tour to halong bay which started a 8, so was a bit of a struggle at the start of the day but this was a floating booze cruise, the host Aj was funny as, went kayaking, caving, swimming, drinking, more drinking and then skinny dipping, actually pretty surprised I did this but stoked I did cause I can now say I have been skinny dipping in halong bay. Surprisingly there was a fair bit of pollution in there.
After Halong bay I stayed a couple more nights in Hanoi and went out with the core group of our Halong bay tour which gave us negotiating power when we walked in to bars so we could demand cheaper drinks or we’d go else where. Had 2 awesome nights and 1 pretty cool day there before flying down to Vientiane to meet Aloune, trishs friend at the airport, was awesome, was picked up from the airport and shown a bit around town, he helped me get a guest house and then took me out that night with his friends. I think these guys all have a bit of cash because we went through heaps of bottle of scotch at this night club and they didn’t let me pay for a thing, so ended buying them a couple of shots but still felt like I owed them s*** loads. The Laos girls are beautiful, no loving for me but was a good perve never the less.
The Laos guys that I were hanging out with her alcoholics, soi fitted right in, I spent 4 nights in Vientiane and went night clubbing 3 times till early hours was good times and they definitely love their RnB.
I have still been hanging out with a group of backpackers sort of doing the same thing as me,I that I met in Hanoi. Cool how the backpacking community looks after each other. A couple of quick stories from Vientiane, we hired motorbikes yesterday and went out and essentially trespassed and gave ourselves a tour of the beerlao factory which was good fun, typical ignorant western backpacker behaviour but was a blast anyway.
Also last night we woke up some freak of a self proclaimed lady boy really late when we were hungry and got him to cook us up a feed, we actually got in the kitchen helped, him out then only to discover his boy friend inside watching hardcore porn which was quite weird and he never even turned it off or down, weirdo, so we had our feed and thought it would be a good idea to try and do the runner, but lets just say that the lady boy is very fast his mate who also chased us which may or may not of been a meat clever, needless to say we paid the freak his cash plus a hefty tip after some convincing from his friend and a threat to call the police, not my proudest moments both pretty ignorant, but shenanigans none the less.
I was unable to pick up a card from the embassy when I was in Vientiane so still relying on western union which sucks but got to do what I gotta do I spose. Anyway at Vang Vieng now, going to spend a few days backpacking and im sure there will more shenanigans to report in a couple of days.
