G'day!
We had an amazing time on Fraser Island. For people who don't know that's the biggest sand island in the southern hemisphere and is since 1992 on the world heritage list. You can only go there with a 4WD and only camp there. We did so with a group of 11 and a nice 4WD truck. We drove along the whole island on the beach, through the dunes, visited the beautiful freshwater lakes McKenzie and Wabby, had an amazing view from indian head where we saw humpback whales and stingrays. We braught all our food with us and enjoyed the back-to-basic camping on the beach, allthough it was f**g cold at night - here in queensland they have the coldest nights for this periode sinds I don't know when. Temperature goes down to 1C after sunset (which is at 5.30). But the campfire kept us warm untill we had to crawl into our tents and sleep on the ground (ouch!). After the first night our 4Wheeeldrive broke down and we had to push the car out of the sand several times... But still got back safe having a great experience with 9 other people.
For the rest we have amazing weather since we hit the Sunshine Coast (Brisbane) - everyday sun, almost no wind - unfortunately no swell at all which means no surf. Anyway we are now that far north that this would be the last surf spot because the Great Barrier Reef is blocking all the swell. So we keep the board in the car and unpack our snorkeling equipment.
On Thursday we leave for 3 days sailing around the whitsunday Islands - we really look forward to that. It's now counting the days, in 2 weeks we fly home where we already look forward to!
Cheers and take care!
