Yesterday Niels and I arrived in Kuala Lumpur. That was strange that after a trip of 4 hours in a bus through rainforresty area all of a sudden this big city arrises next to the highway.
The last days we spent in Taman Negara, the National Park in Malaysia. It's the oldest one of the world (they say) and the biggest in Malaysia.
We stayed at the little village opposite of the main entrance of the park and you have to take a little boat everytime you want to get in.
The village was frustratingly small and nothing there, finding some acceptable food was a challenge. But they made lovely watermelon juices! :-)
The park itself was great, we made 2 hikes, one up to a hill which took us 5 hours in total. Part of this route was the Canopy Skywalk, one of my personal highlights during the planning of our trip. And yes i wasn't dissappointed. What a great experience on this 530 m long and 45 m above the ground hanging bridges between the rainforrest. Very unstable so also a bit exciting. Wouldn't reccomend that so somebody afraid of heights.
The other trip was to a cave, where we had to crawl through (at the end it was only 40 cm high, so it was really crawling as you see in the army) and filled with little bats. Also very exciting and great to see.
The weather there was extremly hot and humid (my hear is great measure the humidity, gets curlier every day), so we had hard afternoons with headaches and feeling really tired. At the end we were happy to leave to KL, where we found a nice hostel with a great roof terrace in the Golden Triangle, with its hotels, business buidlings, shopping malls, Petrona Twin Towers and KL telecommunication tower.
We enjoy the luxury of a Western city and loved the China town market with all its fake Gucci's, Prada's and Nike's.
Thursday we leave to Singapore to visit Kim and enjoy a weekend with friends in a home place and not a hostel.
The internet connection here is okay, so we will try to upload some pictures.
Kisses, birgit & niels
