Billy and Bekah's Adventure!!
I'm going to take advantage of the free internet here in our hotel before we check out this morning. Like I said in the previous journal, we are in Killarney and LOVING it. If we were to stay somewhere and not go anywhere else, this might possibly be it. Having the Ring of Kerry and the National Park of Killarney at our finger tips is a great treat.
Let me take you back to yesterday. After we left the internet cafe we decided to start driving to look for our hotel we had just booked. Somewhere on our journey we completly passed the hotel unknowingly and proceeded into the Ring of Kerry narrow, winding roads. Billy is having a BLAST driving, he loves the stick shift and all. Meanwhile I am in the passenger seat gasping at every turn and wearing a hole in the floor board where I decide to "break" for him.
We spent about 30 minutes going in the wrong direction but it was totally worth it, we decided we definatly would like to do the whole ring. The hiking looks amazing...there are lakes, hills, fields, waterfalls...etc etc etc.
On our way back into town we came across our hotel, The Victoria House. It's a super cute little hotel located about 2km from town centre and 1 km from the entrance to the National Park. We were so excited to have HOT water, clean beds, our OWN bathroom, and more than we expected, a TV.
We relaxed in the room for a little bit yesterday afternoon catching up on our emails and downloading pictures. I started to label all the pictures so I would remember which mountain and field is which. We then decided to walk into town for a late lunch and came across a supermarket where we grabbed a container of ham, two rolls, a variety bag of chips, 2 sodas, mayo, and plastic knives for a little less than 8 euros. We have been loving the markets, its a great way to eat alot of food for hardly any money!
The past few days when we eat a meal we share it. For example that pub grub and seafood platter was just one, and we split it. Those dishes were about 13 euros, but split ends up being aout 6-7 euros's a person. So its been working out, we save our money on food during the day by getting market food and share a dinner at night.
After the picnc we proceeded to walk back to the hotel to watch the World Cup game, GO ITALY!! Towards the end of the game our friend from Rockledge, Kelly, called. She said they were all going to a bar called "Hussey's". For some odd reason I knew exactly where that was because I had remembered passing it from our parking lot earlier that day and thinking it said "Hershey's Bar". Anyways! We told her we would meet her there around 10PM.
We decided to walk down to the town again because it was so nice out and not worth trying to find a parking spot. The town was certainly crazy at night...streets were full!! We found Kelly right away!!! We were so excited to see someone we knew! We all caught up, we met her friends from school, and teachers. She is in Ireland with the University of South Florida doing an "independent study program". She has been in the country for about 3 weeks now and leaving tomorrow! Kelly and her friends were letting us in on all the great places to go in each city we are about to visit, personal tourguides! Billy,Kelly, and I decided to go look for some trad music (thats another word Kelly informed us about, meaning traditional irish music) We found a great bar with some music, the whole bar was dancing, jiggin, stomping their feet and clapping their hands. It was a great time!! This is what we were looking for!! My mouth still hurts from laughing so much last night!
This morning we don't have to check out of our hotel till noon that was a nice treat to sleep in! It was rainy earlier this morning but it seems like the sun is trying its best to come out. The hotel room included a breakfast, an actual breakfast, not what we have been eating these past few days. I had cereal, eggs, toast and bacon. Billy chowed down on the "traditional irish breakfast". Tea and coffee sure warmed us up!
Well Billy is planning our day, it looks like some hiking is on our agenda. Kelly told us about a great tour to take including a horse buggy ride that takes you down the windy roads of the forest to a lake where you then take a boat to the Ross Castle and shuttle back. She said that has to be that best activity she has done so far in Ireland so we will look into that and the prices. If not, just some regular hiking will be fine and we are staying at a hostel tonight, hopefully our last hostel.
Tomorrow we will do the Ring of Kerry down, around, and back up and head to Cork for the whiskey and Blarney! Wish us luck! Love you all!
