Thailand! The plane was fun, no tvs, but 3 brightly coloured seats to spread out on, and great food! Got in a txi to my hostel and paid too much but i just wanted to get out of the heat! its about 35 degrees, but the humidity is ridiculous! step out the shower and feel dirty already! The hostel is ok, considering im paying around 3 pounds. went for alittle walk and got my first taste of thai food which was good! It strated pouring down as soon as i stepped aaoutside though, we do not know what rain is in England! T%his was mental, you couldn't even see 10cm in front of your face! Spent the night chilling around the hostel, starting to make plans! Found a book about two Ozzies who got put in a Thai prison for drug smuggling and ever since i have been terrified of cockrtoaches crawling into my ear and laying eggs! Decided strongly against doing any drug trafficking when im here! The next day i decided to walk to Khaosan road, which is much easier said than done! Got very lost and very ambushed, so i got in my first tuktuk! Great experience, i held on all the way, but it was cheap and created a breeze! Khaosan road is pretty mentla, stalls all down the sides, with every single thai desperate to sell you something. The street is full of tourists, but its shopping paradise! Learning to barter with them is hard, but they know how easy it is to rip you off! Was walking down the road, when i bumped into Sophie! (who is Roz's friend who came to Newquay with us). We went to do some more shopping, and had lunch, and then went to the new part of town, and a shopping centre called the MBK. It was so big, 8 florrs and you get completely lost! its all stalls in there too, but they had some nice stuff! We went for pizza which was so so good, first western meal i hvae eaten in a few weeks, and it actually rivalled the hut! although i know that is hard to beleive! We went up to the top floor of the shopping centre, and there was a dance competition going on, which looked so fun! we watched a few groups, then decided to leave. Walked around the centre for a while, then found a really nice complex with a cinema, and went to watch angels and demons. the cinema was massive and so nice and clean, you forget where you are! Before the film starts, they play the national anthem in a tribute to the king which was different! we all had to stand up! the film was annoying, as it missed out far too much that was vital to the story! WE came back to Khao san road and saw that it was even more manic at night, at 1am, allt he shops where still open, and bars all up the road! Went back to my hostel though. This morning, i got a tuktuk to take me round some of the temples. They get petrol vouchers if they take customers to certain shops and we look interested, so he agreed that if i went in two shops for him to get tghe vouchers, he would take me for free! We went to about 5 temples, and he waited outside between each one, then i went to the massive one with the reclingin buddha and the grand palace. The temples are so beautiful, a lot more colourful that the japanese ones, with such intricate detail, nothing is too grand for the thais! Got a taxi back to Khao san road where i am now, to use the internet, and getting the night train at 7.30pm up to Chiang mai, to arrive ther in the morning. Thialand is a massive shock after Japan, and already fed up with everyone trying to sell me something! Everything you look at is addressed with "how much you give me". On the other hand, you can eat a really good meal for a pound, shop and not feel guilty, and stay in a nice hotel much cheaper than a dorm room in Japan! The temples are beautiful, and the city is exciting. Was so nice to see sophie, and very unexpected!
