Arrived in Hoi An this morning at 6.30. We took the overnight train from Nha Trang to Danang and then got picked up and brought to Hoi An. The train was much the same as the other day, 4 bunks per compartment, we were in carriage 10, number 18 & 20, sharing with 2 Vietnamese women this time. I slept ok, off and on, the train was bumpier and rockier than the last, but it wasnt so bad. Thankfully when we arrived at the hotel this morning our room was already ready so we could go straight in and have a sleep. The room smells foisty and the beds feel damp, but we were so tired it didnt matter.
Woke around 11 to find ants in my bag and in the room, not nice, but a guy came and sprayed them and they are not there now, hopefully it will stay that way. Got free internet here which is nice and there is also a pool which should be good.
Set out for an explore earlier and Hoi An is much smaller and older than anywhere else, it somehow feels more Vietnamese. Its nice, there are lots of tailor shops and souveiners. We had a bagette for lunch and a tea/orange juice/lime juice/ 7 up and genadine cocktail earlier, really refreshing. Will pop out tonight for something to eat. On our way back to the hotel we spotted fully grown live squeeling pigs stuffed into big baskets to be transported on the back of bikes supposedly to market... Bit odd, but again, very vietnamese!
Bye for now XXX
10.50pm
Just been for food, we walked down the street to a cafe/restaurant that we saw earlier. There are a few traditional dishes of Hoi An that we are going to try and we had 2 of them tonight. Claire had fried wanton and it came with tomatos/onions/pineapple and meat in a sauce and i had 'White Rose' which are a white rice flour pancake type thing stuffed with a shrimp mix, a bit like a floppy wanton served with a vinegary dip. Very yummy and filled a hole til breakfast! We dont get breakie here, so we have to go out and forage for ourselves! Its, dare i say, chilly tonight, we sat inside toeat, very different to what we have been used to, but more of what is to come!
Til tomorrow. Enjoy your day X
