Although we tried to learn Thai using a one-month on-line subscription to Rosetta Stone, we needed a lot more time with the software. We thought we would take some Thai lessons in Bangkok, so we took a cab to the American University Language Institute. We sat through a free hour of what was a 30-hour intro program. Basically, they teach an immersion approach and do not let you speak in class (or out) for the first 1000 hours. Needless to say, this wouldn't work for us. Rather, we tried to get a one-on-one tutor, but no one would take us up on the request, either at the school or in the hotel, so we picked up a Berlitz phrase book with CD, and we'll practice as best we can.
We decided to walk back from the Institute, and we experienced all kinds of interesting street life as we passed through a variety of neighborhoods. It was super hot, so I think we are in for some toasty times on the road once we leave the comfort of our hotel!
For some reason, we were seriously wiped out, so we had another early night.
