The days are flying by & finding it difficult to remember which country we're in let alone which king ruled where & who lived in that palace & who invaded who, absolute information overload, too much for my little brain I'm afraid. However, loved Budapest, a city filled with wall to wall traffic in little narrow streets, the Danube busy with tourist cruise boats & picturesque churches, castles & history. Our tour guide was a very entertaining young man who told us that Hungarians are known best for 3 things, they're always busy, always on the wrong side, and they always lose! They won one battle in 1456 which they now celebrate every year, their only claim to fame. From what I can see Hungary would have very little choice really, they are landlocked & have around 7 other countries on their borders so they're obviously always trying to keep someone happy! Had a lovely night in our hotel for Wayne's 70th birthday, grassroots supplied balloons & bubbly, I think it will be pretty memorable for him. Attended a great concert of national folk dancing, it was amazing, not a bit tame or boring, amazed at the jumping & knee slapping that went on & once again held in a beautiful old building. Next day had a tour of their Houses of Parliament, magnificent building & decorated in similar ornate style as the churches & castles of the area, makes our beehive look pretty ordinary. We got quite familiar with the public transport & managed to cover most of the city with our day passes, our only fear was never being able to get off at your stop as we were jammed in like sardines. After dinner that night we boarded our overnight train & headed for Poland, travelling right through Slovakia again, it was quite a fun trip, having our happy hour in the hall outside our cabins, everyone feeling the need for a little alcoholic assistance to get a good nights sleep. Norma provided the most entertainment of the night by falling out of her bunk (lower one fortunately) only her pride was hurt luckily although she did manage to knock one of the lens out if the glasses. 6.30am had us arriving at Krakow & straight to our hotel for breakfast.
