Soo since last time, we've played ice hockey on someone's personal backyard ice rink, watched the super bowl, feared for our lives in a car driven by a maniac, gone bowling and seen some of the biggest houses in the world!!
ok, so the ice hockey was more like we watched my cousins and friends in complete awe as they whizzed around the rink actually managing to hit this tiny rubber puck, then later had a go at wobbling uncertainly around on the ice ourselves... but having personally not skated for about 6 years i'm pretty proud to not have broken several bones! especially as we might have been slightly under the afflunece of incohol!! and beth?!? not overly sure she can call it skating because normally we skate with our feet, not our bums.. and when we're not on our bums its normally NOT because a certain pro skater is dragging them around the rink on the end of a hockey stick. all in all, it was good fun!
Now, on to the superbowl. we were told that (although its an American thing) it was a family custom to go and watch it at a sports bar restaurant type thing, so we duly drove all the way to Bright's Grove (about half an hour drive from Sarnia and where my other aunt lives!) and settled in our seats. As we waited for kick off we muched on delicious honey-garlic chicken wings and nachos... then finally the moment came! kick off!! unfortunately we missed it cos we were busy playing cards and drinking cocktails... but i'm told it was an exciting game which the underdogs won!
Another exciting event was being present to witness a young lady's driving lesson. with no instructor. One of my cousin's friends is learning to drive, and asked to have a go at practising driving a geared car (they're mostly automatic over here). The owner of the car thought that that might be a fun activity, so we drove to a quiet back-street and the learner took over! she took off gently, progressed into 2nd gear then, under instruction from the girl with a licence, upped the revs and tried for 3rd. unfortunately, she hit 1st. all of this took so much concentration that she had forgotten about watching the road and was cruising gently (or rather, bumpily) down the left hand side of the road... not such a normal practise in North America. Of course, the others in the car (including ourselves) took it upon ourselves to point this out to the driver by screaming "YOU'RE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD!!!!!!!" Her reply was simply... "I'm in England!!!!". at this point the owner of the car decided the lesson was over and calm returned. with only a few people close to heart attack.
Well, thats about all for now, weather update? still cold, really cold! and now i'm off to drink chocolate milk. :)
