Day 2 in Sorrento. Early this morning we took a short bus ride to the Sorrento Port to catch a boat to Capri - a 20 minute journey. On arrival we took the cable car to the Capri township and had a walking tour of the town's historical sites which include the remains of an abbey. We had some free time to do the shops however prices were prohibitive, except if course for gelato, wine and beer which we sampled. To gain an understanding of the costs ULP and Diesel were €2.003 per litre ) approximately $2.72 per litre.
Following the tour of Capri we had a fantastic guided small-boat cruise around the southern end of the Island. We were lucky to get into 3 natural grottos in the cliffs at sea level where colourful orange and red coral grows.
Back on the boat to Sorrento Port and then to the hotel to prepare for an outing to a wood inlay workshop and a working farm. The inlaid products were of high quality and there were many beautiful items. The farm is only 4 acres but produces mozzarella, red wine, lemons, apples, mandarines and pears.
The family who runs the farm gave us a pizza making lesson then served us dinner which included their produce - wonderful wines and limoncello, cheeses and of course - traditional pizzas which were amazing.
Today's insight:
Capri has no water reserves on the Island and receives its supplies from a submarine aqua-duct from Naples.
Sorrento is the 'capital' of the mozzarella and limoncello. Limoncello is an Italian lemon liqueur mainly produced in Southern Italy, especially in the region around the Gulf of Naples, the Sorrentine Peninsula and the coast of Amalfi and Capri.
