The 6 hour bus trip down to Vang Veing was pretty much a blur, due to the condition I was in but whenever I did open my eyes, was again treated to some amazing views of mountain backdrops and jungle filled valleys which made the pot holed road journey a lot more bearable. We'd been recommended by a guy at the Vang Veing bus station about the Phonsavan bungalows in town which were relatively cheap and clean so we checked it out. And they were, so for 60,000kip a night we decided we'd stay for 2 nights. We walked into town and grabbed some dinner then hit the sack.
We'd never been rock climbing before on our travels so booked up a rock climbing tour for for the next day. We was both very exited about it knowing that there would be some great climbs around the limestone mountains. We hired out some push bikes to visit some caves, which we read are one of Vang Vieng's main attractions. The first cave was Tham Jang with about 150 steps leading up I the entrance, then many well lit walkways, theres was no others inside apart from us so was pretty spooky. The next cave we rode to was one that we didn't really know about, there was no lights apart from the head torch we had to pay 10,000kip to borrow off the guy who directed us to the entrance. It was pitch black, no handrails, muddy, and some of the rocks were so close together we had to literally bend down or squeeze through. He said it takes about 20 minutes to get to the end where we'd be met with pools that we could swim through, but I'd say about 10 minutes in I was definitely ready to turn round and go head back due to my mild sense of costrophobia, there was a couple of hairy moments when I had to take a few deep breathes, but I battled on and got to the end, where we was met with two pools but there was noway i would be getting in so we took a couple of pictures and hastily made our way back out of the cave.
