MADE IT TO HO CHI MINH CITY!!! :D The Motorbike trip from Hanoi to Saigon is now over! GooooooooooooooD TimeS!
So - Mui Ne tuned out to be even better that I had imagined! It was kinda confusing because the area that Lonely Planet mapped out for Mui Ne was actually 2/3km out of Mui Ne town and also 4km down the road from all the main bars etc - although we did have the best bit of beach around :D Me and spence biked the 4 Ks into bar-town - which was very quiet because its low season - and somehow ended up finding the best, cheapest place to eat and drink! It had an awesome sea view allowing us to watched all the pro vietnamese kite surfers. Here we met with the two other guys im travelling with now - Sam and Ben. (LOOADS of Sams and Bens around!)
We made quick friends and now are a travelling foursome. The next day, we went to the White sand dunes... this was an incredible experience! Spence, the other Ben and I hopped on the bikes and raced the 25km out to them! Along the way we picked up some fishing rods because there's a lake there we were told about by Ben and Sam. These rods cost us about 50p each - made from long bamboo poles, some nylon line, and 3 hooks from a random hardware store - worms were dug up from the ground by a legend of a little kid when we got there - who also rigged our rods! While he rigged them - we made our way to the dunes to do some surfing desert-style. As we made the walk, we realisued that an absolutely HUGE storm was making its way towards us. Because of the exapnce of flattish sand dunes, we could see the whole storm streched out before us - I could even see the curve of the edge of it - it looked like something out of Independence Day!!! I have a photo ;-) However - due to the storm, when we reached our boarding point at the top of some dunes, it wasso windy I could barely open my eyes with the sand flying everywhere... So I only had the chance for 1 slide before I was covered in sand... So unfortunately we had to cut that short. But straight after we headed for the little lake and did some bamboo rod fishing! haha! - the easiest fishing ive ever done - we cast our 4 meter long lines out into the shallows and a few drags later, i'd have a fish on the end - about 4 inches long... haha!
ANYWAY! - After one hell of a drunken night - tequila slammers and Rum on the beach... Sam and Ben cought the bus to HCMC. We were'nt far behind them on our bikes - dispite me waking up still drunk :P The trip went smoothly, apart from Spencer turning a chicken into a feather firework. I arrived with the blackest face EVER! Coming into Saigon was mayhem - and I was walking around the bacjpacker area for a while not having checked myself in the mirror - I felt sorry for anyone I'd spoken too when I saw myself :P Luckily, Ben and Sam had moved into a hotel literally opposite ours, so we were instantly re-united!
Saigon has been very fun! I know that definitely prefer Hanoi, but still - I haven't been here for long enough to make a fair decision. The first day or two was spent partly getting my bike fixed for sale and partly exploring the city. Exploring was epic fun - we went to a couple of museums, The 'War Remnants' one had a real impact on all of us - a photographic depiction of the Vietnam war and the brutality of it. As we walked round - we made a habbit and challenge of trying to get to the roof of the tallest buildings around - which involved sweet talking the receptionists/security guards - or simply running into the lift and pressing 'R' and the close button as quickly as possible :D - we got chucked out of 2 buildings 1 of which the roof level was still being built!
Last night we did a joint challenge... a drinking challenge! With my 'Bike For Sale' sign hung on the front of the tables, we sat at a street side restaurant and lined up our chairs looking out on the street. We bought a nice shot glass each, whipped out a stop watched, and attempted 'The Centurian' - 100 shots of beer in 100 minutes! 1hour 40mins and a burger later, Sam was upstairs making friends with the toilet, Spencer was making friends with an small alley, and both Bens were singing away gathering a group at the tables next to ours trying to sell my bike! HAHA!! I have a photo document of the whole thing! :D
I didn't managed to sell my bike that day... But about 3 hours ago... I DID! I NO LONGER OWN A MOTORBIKE! It was an awesome month ofownership - but now, no key no ownership papers - just 3 Benjamin Franklins in my wallet to show for it. :D An Epic Odyssy!
Tomorrow - we set off for the Mekong Delta for about 3 days - My next blog update will probably be from Phnom Penh - or somewhere in Cambodia!
P.S. - Spencer has one hell of an awesome story to tell as well - involving Black Jack, $42,000, people called Dan, Dave, Donna and Mr. Li Ho and a fake story of our own! :D haha! Random to the MAX! HA!
