Every single time I come to write my blog I realise i've left it too long - Because each time I have way too much to try to include...
Ive just got back from a 3 day hilltribe, jungle trek that took us on a loop north of Chiang Mai.
From my last blog post - I had another day in Bangkok to myself (and Villa - a Swede I met) We had a pretty random and extremely tiring day of it - visited Wat Pho and its famous 50ft long reclining Budda - which symbolises the final stage of ascention to Nirvana. We then took a taxi to the equally famous Chatuchak Weekend Market - which was breathtaking. VAST is the only way to describe it! We only spent about 3 hours walking around it and barely scratched the surface - you could spend 2 days in there non-stop and still have more to see. I grabbed a coconut shake and we wandered around. Parts are covered and maze-like, others are completely open air - yes... we got lost... :P
After that tho - I had one more night in Bangkok on my own - found a wicked little place for just 150baht a night :) and in the morning I made my way to the 'Hotel De' Moc' where I met with the tour leader and the rest of my group for the Thailand Hike, Bike and Kayak Tour. I was expecting a few people of around the same age as me - :P but oh no - I have 4 others, all more than twice my age - which surprised me... HA! ahh well... their all really nice - if a little posh and precious (just one) :P
The 3 days of hiking - shown in more detail in the pics ive uploaded - has been truly awesome! It really hasn't been one of those touristy things where you stay in resorts half way up the mountains - it's been class not to have seen any other tourists for a while - we've been taken on a seriously (literally) unbeaten track - with really steep ascents and descents - Stayed in tiny little mountainside villages where our dorm room, made out of bamboo, is pretty much suspended over a 60m drop :D Jaw dropping. In one of the villages I had a game of football with about 10 other kids all half my height :D ha! - in this heat and at altitude I was spent in half an hour! :P
As we trekked, the scenery changed the whole time - moving from bamboo to lush green deciduous forest. Shiiiit loads of bugs and flies everywhere - termite mounds are evrywhere - in fact we even saw an army of them using our path for a road.
The best bit tho - cooling off in a waterfall half way thourgh the longest day. Them having our lunch of noodles and chicken wrapped in banana leaves. :D
Last night we spent the night at an amazing (still being built) tree house village - which soon will be turned into some kind of private resort - but its wicked to say that ive been there before it becomes the next BIG THING! check out the website - www.treehousechaingdao.com - incredible! They even intend to put zip lines in to connect the tree houses! :D
Internet is running out again - but i need to mention that we went ELERPHANT RIDING today! :D I know - **tourist** classic - but it had to be done. :D
More pics of tyhis trip will be coming - promise!
