Hello again guys and gals, we have now moved onto Goa, we arrived here on the 5th of November and getting off the plane it was like being put in an oven!! We thought Delhi was hot but it was nothing compared to here, its in the mid to high 30's!!
We first went to a town in the south of Goa called Colva, and as it was getting late booked into the first guest house we came to, but this was a bad idea, it was so chavvy! Had a few drinks that night, which was a good idea, as we didnt really notice where we were sleeping after that. Next day we moved down to a guest house along the beach which was much nicer and the same price, which was very cheap. Colva was so much cheaper than Delhi and the sea food was great, check out the prawn video. Colva was very nice if a little quiet, most of the other people there were either indian tourists or middle aged europeans, it was nice to relax though after our hectic week in Northern India. While we were there we experienced some impressive tropical storms, one night we were stuck at our appartment with no electricity, it was pouring down with no sign of stopping and we were getting hungrey!! We waited for a while and then decided to make a run for it in our pac a macs (thanks ellen!) We made it to the closest bar, well i did but Ben got collared by some local fisherman trying to get there boat back up onto the shore. There was only three of them trying to push this boat and they were struggling slightly, they saw us coming and started shouting for help, obviuosly i was absolutely useless so just went to the bar for a stiff one!! Ben had to help push the boat in the rain bless him, i think he was there for at least 15- 20 mins haha rather him than me!! It was amazing to watch the storm from the beach front the lightening lit up the whole sky.
We spent a few days chilling out and wandering aroung Colva, a few days in and we decided to hire a moped and investigate a beach further south called Palolem, this is known as the most idyllic beach in Goa. The journey there was a bit of an adventure, Ben got off to a shaky start and i thought i might die, then we broke down about 3 mins up the road as there was no petrol!! Anyway we finally managed to get on our way and we ended up in some town inland which was not supposed to be on our route but it was quite funny at the time, Ben was asking a couple of girls which way to Palolem and they were just giggling at him, understandable i thought.
After a long drive through the mountains, we finally made it there, it was really nice but really overcrowded, we decided that would not be our next stop.
Instead we decided to head into Northern Goa to a place called Baga whicgh was supposed to be far more lively than Colva and have a bit of night life. Anyway when we arrived in Baga it was more like the Costa del Sol than an idyllic Goan beach, it seemed like every Patel and his brother was there! As well as alot of Bazza's and Shazza's from England thrown in! It was not what we had in mind at all! Our guest house was really nice but we had to book a minimum of three nights, so we decided to make the most of it, we didnt see anything particularly amazing there, except a particularly Indian style of beach wear "Chuddies and a visor", for those of you who dont know what this is, it is the chosen beach wear of the indian male, consisting of the pants they were wearing under their trousers and a visor, hilariousif slightly worrying.
At present we are in a small town in the North of Goa called Arambol, this is much quieter than Baga with a very nice beach, alot of the people here are hippyu types wuth dreads and all the rest, and it is really chilled out and nice. There is a much younger crowd and the prices here are even cheaper than the other places we visited in Goa. We are staying in a bamboo beach hut at the moment, but it is much nicer than it sounds, with its own bathroom, and is also very cheap at just over 4 quid a night! Its our second day here so we'll update you soon. Peace out x
