We didn't get much sleep on our last night as we had to get the bus at 7am! We all fell out of bed packed up and made our way to the bus station. On the bus we all got a bit of shut eye that we missed from the night before. Mission beach is a small town with a few shops and cafés, no bars or clubs so we couldn't be tempted to go out! We got picked up from the bus station by the hostels shuttle bus, the driver Ben, who we later became good mates with was telling us about the area and said that the hostel was usually full of girls!! We drove up this short dirt track to the hostel which looked pretty cool sitting at the edge of the rain forest. Like most hostels we couldn't check in until the afternoon so we just chilled in the common room trying to get more sleep.
After checking in we dumped our bags in the room (which was soooo hot) went back to the reception to find out what we could do for the afternoon! We ended up hiring some fishing rods! So, we jumped back on the shuttle bus to a jetty that went out quite a bit into the sea. Ben told us that there were small sharks In the sea so we was all excited to catch one! We spent 2/3 hours fishing and soaking up the sun! Tim was the only one to catch a fish while we were there, some silver triangular type fish, it wasn't a shark but at least one of us caught something! While we were waiting to be picked up we went for a stroll on the beach, took a naked picture to show off our tans, even Danny looked a darker shade of white!!
When we got back to the hostel we cooked up some grub, chilled and watched Despicable Me as the hostel put on a movie every night! This was our first night off in a while, Lloyd and Danny had to be up early the next day as they were doing the skydive!
The next morning Danny and Lloyd woke up early feeling fresh and buzzing for the skydive. Lloyd having already done one before wasn't nervous, Danny was too excited so didn't feel scared or nervous. The skydive in mission beach is the highest one in Australia at 14,000ft! After a short trip and a safety briefing it wasn't long before we jumped into the plane (last in first out) and began climbing through the clouds. The views were amazing the beaches, the tropical islands and the reef all looked so stunning! An orange light went on in the plane then I think a few peoples nerves started to kick in on the plane, we was getting closer to the jump site. But Of course not Danny and Lloyd, the green light then came on, this was it, time to throw ourselves out of a plane. Within seconds everyone was falling out, it came to Dannys turn, followed shortly by Lloyd. A short bum shuffle to the door, body hanging off, head back, there is no time to think about anything 3….2….1… and you're out. Free falling for about 1 minute which felt like 10 seconds. The parachute opens at 5000 feet so you can imagine how quickly you're falling! When the parachute opened it was a chance to enjoy, relax and take in the beautiful sights. The instructors let us take over the reins of the parachute doing crazy spins and turns. When we touched back down safe and sound it was a chance to just think about what just happened and it literally takes your breath away! The whole skydive lasted about 6minutes from jumping out of the plane but was worth every penny! When we got back to the hostel caught up with Tim and told him about it. On the skydive Lloyd and Danny met a couple of Lads from London Adam and Luke who are doing a similar route as us who are also going to be in Sydney for new years. For the rest of the afternoon/evening we all just chilled by the pool waiting for the movie to start then went to bed once it had finished.
Our last day at mission beach we all fancied a bike ride, we got up early then set off for a trip to the town centre for lunch. On our way back, it started to get dark really quickly and before we knew it we were cycling back towards the hostel in a thunderstorm. We stopped off on the way back at a trail that lead into the jungle so we thought we'd head into there for some shelter. We started making our way through the jungle but found no shelter, we were soaked!! But it's not all bad as it was still so warm, like having a hot shower! We continued to make our way through the jungle climbing up the peak of it. After an hour or so we got to the top which overlooked the sea, reef and beaches, took a couple of selfie then made our way back to the hostel. As it was our last night here we decided to have a couple of drinks, which soon turned into 5 bottles of wine and a few beers! We sat around in the bar area playing games and chatting with the other people in the hostel. We got on really well with a guy called Ben, and we will meet him in Sydney for New Year's along with about 20 other friends we've made along the way!! We all eventually staggered to bed apart from Lloyd who spent the majority of the night sleeping in a hammock! The next morning we were on the move again, next stop magnetic island.
