Today we headed along the coast further south towards Dubrovnik and ended up in a town called Slano. The campsite was basic and the owners struggled to understand us, but it was really really cheap, 60 kunas a night, which works out to be about 9 Euros! It was directly on a little beach too, so we couldn't complain too much.We parked the van next to another one, and a polish family were c amped next to us, they said hello (in polish) and although they didn't speak any English, and we didn't know any polish, we able to communicate to them that we were from Australia and they told us that they liked the van!
The next day was a day to laze about and take advantage of the super cheap camping, hot weather and totally clear and calm sea. Most of the day was spent on the beach, or reading books/watching movies on the laptop. In the afternoon, Ben started chatting to the polish guy we had said hello to the day before, and soon they were sharing travelling stories (trying to anyway) and showing each other's photos.Because it was difficult for us to remember their names, they 'anglicised' them for Ben, so when Bek came to join in, they were introduced as "Mike Tyson" (Piotr) andhis brother "John Tyson' (Gregor), their wives 'Lara Croft' and 'Cindy Crawford' and Mike's 12 yr old daughter. They then invited us to have dinner with them at the campsites restaurant so we sat with them and had a homemade dinner of freshly caught grilled fish, tomato salad and boiled potatoes with cabbage. The food was so delicious, a real treat after eating packet pasta for days in a row, and we had a lot of fun, trying to learn polish, and teach them some English. They started calling Ben 'James Bond' and offering endless amounts of wine, beer and of course…vodka!! We were still at the restaurant after closing time, drinking and chatting, and the night ended with Ben sneaking off to vomit next to the van and Bek coaxing him to get up and sleep in the van rather than sit outside the whole night!
