San Pedro - Gejsere, badning i saltlaguner og sanddune boarding/ Geysers, swimming in salt lagoons
San Pedro De Atacama, Chile
(For English version, see further down)
Saa naeste stop (ergo update) Salar De Uyuni, Bolivia
Mange knus herfra
Yet another up date. After some amazing days in Santiago, we had to move on to our next destination San Pedro de Atacama (the northern part of Chile). We arrived by airplane to Calama city and from here we went by bus another hour up in to the mountains in to a desert. While we were in Santiago 'Team Canada' sent us a massage and asked if we wanted to team up in San Pedro. So when we arrived, we spend the afternoon looking around for good offers on tours as well as multiple activities in and around San Pedro. When Team Canada arrived in the evening, we had already made an itinerary of 5 days. The first day was in San Pedro and the rest were a tour towards Bolivia. We will mere tell you about San Pedro in this update, however you needn't worry, there are plenty of things to say. The following morning we got picked up from our hostel at 04.00 am to go to the highest area of geysers in the world at 4750 m. After a 2 hour bus trip, we arrived at sunrise, which was beautiful. We went around and was told about the history of the area and how a geyser is formed. Then we got to go bathing in hot springs, not to far from the geysers and was also served breakfast, including eggs boiled in the geysers. We arrived back in San Pedro around noon, all of us starving, so we found a small cozy restaurant with live music and amazing Chilean food. After resting for a couple of hours, our tight run program continued with at trip to the salt lagoons, just located 2 km outside of the city. The lagoons had the most amazing location. The area around them was a completely flat piece of land and you had an amazing view of the Andes mountains. We were in awe. The coolest experience, though, was swimming in the lagoons, because they contained approximately 35% salt. This meant that we could stand upright with out sinking and float without even trying. After having a blast in the salt lagoons, the tour offered cocktails as we look out on to the sunset. The local drink 'Pisco Sour' was very strong, so everyone got a little tipsy, however we also think that the altitude helped ;) . We were back around 8 pm, just in time to relax a little before we had the final trip of the day. At 11.30 pm the schedule said 'sand dune boarding', which is like snow boarding, only that it is on sand dunes instead of down a snowy mountain. This was the perfect way to end an already fantastic day. So we were only back at 02 am, although we had experienced everything San Pedro had to offer. The next morning we had to get up at 06.30 am to start our journey towards Bolivia. Next stop (ergo update) Salar De Uyuni, Bolivia
