Bali ~ Night Heaven with Millions of Stars (Travelling period: 19-08-2011 to 22-08-2011)
Kuta, Indonesia
Bali, an Island of God, which is a home for Hindu Community in Indonesia. Although Bali is just an island in Indonesia, it is famous as the largest tourist destination in Indonesia and rich with its sophiticated arts like traditional and modern sculpture, leather, furniture, painting, dance, music and metalworking.
In view of Bali don't have the proper transport service (e.g. Train or Bus Service) provided, prior our visit, we have hired a driver to fetch us travelling and explore certain place of interest in Bali, which stated in my itinerary plan. Our transportation fee is RP550,000 per car for one full day with 7 seated MPV. We were travelling in August, which is fall under Dry Season where humidity is low and temperature is hot approximately 30 Celcius at lower coastal area. Weather is cooler at central mountain area. We have took three (3) hours flight journey travelled from LCCT, Kuala Lumpur to Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar Bali Indonesia.
We have missed the first day sunset since we arrived at Bali in the evening. In the first night, we required the driver to bring us for Balinese traditional local food for dinner and that the place we went, "Plengkung Res, Kuta Bali". Food is nice and notably its main dishes are served with its local sambal (spicy source). The price range is about RP15,000 to RP85,000. As I said, the night is never end where Bali is totally a night heaven place, which opens from 10am to 4am (early morning). We have a street walk at Legian Kuta after checked in to Wina Holiday. Its local beer, "Bintang", is everywhere at the street.
Itinerary for second day tour:
Celuk Village → Desa Batuan and Traditional Balinese House → Ibu Oka Ubud (Babi Guling) → Tegalalang Rice Terraces → View of Volcano and Lake Batur → Spring Temple Tirtha Empul → Bebek Tepi Sawah → Seminyak Square (Satay Babi)
Celuk village is traditional gold and silver smith center, which is the famous village in Bali as well as in Indonesia as an art tourist destination cause of innovation and creativity of the local residents in gold and silver smith. The type of gold and silver craft has been produced in this village are covering various of rings, bangles, chokers, earrings, mother of pearls, broach and other types of jewelry.
For over a thousand years Batuan has been a village of artists and craftsmen, beside that Batuan is also famous by its traditional Balinese house compound. At this place we have a chance to explore about Bali traditional architecture and way of life from Bali common people. The Balinese house will have its general family information i.e. number of pria (male) and wanita (female) stated at the front side wall of the house. The entrance was blocked by a wall with religious statue where the local believe "Unlucky" will not enter the house. No entrance fee but donation to be given to the house owner.
Lunch at Ibu Oka Ubud with its famous local meal - "Babi Guling". Taste is not really as good as normal roasted pork. Shop is crowded with tourists.
Tegalalang is one of destination in Bali which is popular by its beutiful ricefield. The rice terrace is designed very beautiful with exquisite hollowing rice field and precisely located on the hill bank. We have stopped our journey at Alon-Alon Terrace Café for tea break and enjoy the beautiful panorama of valley with rice terrace and coconut trees ornament it.
Mt. Batur as we know it today was formed by an eruption in 1917; it is a still active. The weather is cool and windy. Lake Batur is just next to the Mt. Batur.
Tirtha Empul temple is a Hindu temple in the middle of Bali Island, Indonesia, famous for its Holy water where Hindu Bali people go for purification. The holy springs temple at Tirtha Empul temple have been used by the Balinese since the 10th century. This is not surprising given the legend that the water contains the spirit of immortality after spring's creation by the God Indra. The water from different pipe has different meaning of blessing.
On the way for dinner, we have stopped by at Bebek Tepi Sawah for its local food again namely "Dirty Duck". The restaurant's environment is great and the food is tasty.
We intended to have drinking and dinner session at Ku De Ta, Seminyak. Poor thing, there was held a private function on the day we visited. Nonetheless, we have stopped at Seminyak Square, a small shop lot area before Ku De Ta, for dinner and there is a place we have tasted the local dish, "Satay Babi".
As I said, the night at Kuta, Bali seem like never end, which opens till 4am on the next day. After dinner, we have started our party night at Legian Kuta. The most crowded club at that street should be Sky Garden.
Itinerary for third day tour:
Ulun Danu Temple with Lake Beratan → Buyan and Tamblingan Lake → Munduk Waterfall → Tanah Lot → Dinner and Balinese Massage
On the way to Ulun Danu Temple, we have passed by strawberry farm and Bedugul's fruit and vegetable market. All of us have the same feeling like we are reaching at Cameron Highland, Malaysia. What make the different is, we didn't see any steamboat shop over here. The place here is yet to develop, so we can see the nature beauty of this place. Ulun Danu Temple is a Balinese Hindu Temple located at Candi Kuning countryside together with a lakeside namely Lake Beratan. It making the temple with beautiful lake view and surrounded by hills. Although temperature was hot during my visit, I still can feel cold because the temple is located at high hill side. Opposite the lake side, there are several houses occupied by those original local people where they are still practicing original "old life" - No water and electrical supply.
After a quick lunch at Warong Barokah (a restaurant opposite the Ulun Danu Temple's entrance), we were heading to Munduk Waterfall. Along the way, we had passed by Buyan and Tamblingan lake which two lakes are side to each other. Buyan Lake is a smallest lake in Bali located just a next door of Tamblingan Lake. It is located in the plateau area with cool weather cover it, at Wanagiri Village. It is situated in the high land with hill and rain forest surrounds it. This lake is surrounded by coffee and clove plantation. There is also a place where local people present the cobra snake, bat and chameleon for photo session. It looked scary for me but the rest of the tourists looked fine with it.
Along the downhills driving, we have reached the small warung (shop) right at the steep hill road entrance to the rain tropical forest of Munduk Village. After a short uphill and downhill hiking following the sigh board to the Munduk Waterfall, we had reached the destination. Entrance fee is RP5,000. We have first time seen the great and natural waterfall; the water was blow by the wind and touched on us. All of us were wet and cold. At first, thought of it's only a waterfall, but it worth of going too.
Thereafter, here we went to Tanah Lot for sunset view. Entrance cost is RP10,000. There are several stalls available, which selling the local goods (batik, sarong, slippers and etc). Notably, there has a holly snake, whether it vegetarian? I'm pretty not sure. The sunset looked nice.
After the sunset, we decided to go massage and have a seafood dinner nearby at Seminyak.
Itinerary for fourth/ last day tour:
Kuta Beach → Uluwatu → Padang-padang Beach → Jimbaran Seafood
Last day in Bali, we have walked over to the Kuta beach, which only 2 minutes distance away from our Hotel. The beach scenery is awesome and exactly as shown in tourism picture. Nonetheless, the beach is decorated with commercial benefit where foot/ body massage, seat rental, surfing board rental…. etc can be found over there.
After we have checked out from the hotel, our driver has brought us to Uluwatu. By right, we will go to Blue Point Suluhan (to see Garuda Wisnu Kencana) and Dreamland beach. In view of we are short of time, we decided to skip these two places and direct to Uluwatu and Padang-padang beach before we end our trip for Jimbaran Seafood.
Uluwatu is a Hindu temple set on the cliff bank in south part of Bali Peninsula. It is one of Sad Kahyangan Temple in Bali (six big groups of Bali Temples), located in Pecatu Village, Sub district of South Kuta. It is situated on the coral reef sordid to sea about 80 meters above the sea level. It is featured by a small dry forest which is mostly called by Alas Kekeran (interdict forest) which is belong to the temple and dwelt by a lot of monkeys and other animal. Name of Uluwatu was come from the word Ulu meaning the head and Watu meaning stone. Therefore Uluwatu Temple mean the temple built in tip of coral reef.
Padang-padang beach is located on the western side of the Bukit, before Uluwatu. To access the surf, we have to walk past large chunks of lava rock and make our way to the right end of the beach. The large coral shelf is uncovered for the most part during low tide and is not recommended for surfing. Padang Padang has a beautiful wave but you have to be an advanced surfer to come here. The jagged reef is sometimes referred to as 'the cheese grater'. A couple of bamboo shacks are ready selling foods or even cold drink around the parking area. Limited choices, so the price is slightly expensive than other place in Bali.
Before we end our trip and check in to Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar Bali Indonesia, we have a delicious and tasty seafood dinner at Ganesha Restaurant, Jimbaran with sunset view. The seafood price is reasonable since the environment has additionally given extra scoring.
Here we are and say goodbye to Bali ~ Heaven with Millions of Stars.
