Vino in Vienna!
As you have probably deduced from the title, this entry relates to a day of cycling and drinking in one of Vienna's most famous wine regions. The Wachau region is famous for its white wines and desert wines, red wine isn't that popular unfortunately.
Regardless of that, Courtney, Brennin and myself paid the 50€ for the day guided tour/wine tasting. Starting relatively early we met the guide at our hostel in Vienna then set off to the train station. Its roughly an hour train ride to the region so plenty of time for a snooze on the train! Once we got there it was a quick walk to the bike sheds and we were on our way. The sun was high in the sky and there were little in the way of clouds so 10 minutes into the ride and we were well and truly craving that first glass of vino. Nothing beats that first sip of crisp, fresh, ice cold wine!
In total we visited two wineries and had around 3-4 at each, also a few dessert wines as well. Half way through the day we stopped for lunch in this little town with a blue church (apparently this is significant but at the moment the reason escapes me). We then caught the ferry from one side of the river to the other and had a dip in the water! So refreshing, perfect for after a day of cycling! It began to storm at the beach so that was our que to head back to the station. Many slept, others were just to merry to sleep after all the vino, but all in all a great day in Vienna's wine country!
