Finally left Guatemala...but first...
To get from Peten to Guate, I took a light aircraft by airline Tag and it was only an 18seater, which is to date the smallest craft i have been on and probably will go on. even got blown around on the runway to take off! but it was great as you could see the pilot for the whole journey. Got some photos of the 3 antiguan volcanoes too which was great as we were flying nearby at sunset so i have some night from air shots.
Said goodbye to mum and dad on 5th August and watched their plane take off. That was hard cus when i left England i could say see you in 4 months and it didnt seem long away but now i have no idea when i will see them again as my travel plan keeps me going for a long time. at least another year i think so who knows. Maybe theyll visit me in Argentina.
So I went back to Antigua to spend my last few days in Guatemala with friends and ended up staying another week as i was having such a great time. True friends are hard to come by in life but i made a few in Guatemala.
Unfortunately for the second time recently in have had my big toe damaged, this time way more serious and it has no chance of healing for months. it has a big split in the middle and the 2 parts are not attached, the only thing holding my nail on is the skin its attached to. so it will be a long time before it grows out and i forsee problems with this. For now its wrapped up but i think it may have to be removed. ahh well. Lasting present from my friend in Antigua Choko!
I left the day after 2 good friends, Steve the barman at Reillys and Stephen an Irish friend. So was all good timing and i felt ready however it was hard to leave- Had a good send off and some free drinks from the owners of reillys and some great dancing at the Black Cat hostel with Omar and others.
Left Thursday 11th August to Playa San Diego to meet Kerry and from there travel to Nicaragua. Cus it is such a nice hostel we decided to stay til mid week this week. but Saturday we had a ´family´outing with the hostel owners Darren and Seka, and guests me Kerry and Barak to a dog street dog Sanctuary. Darren and Seka went because me and Kerry wanted to see it and see if we want to volunteer, which we hopefully will do for a week tomorrow and they came away having bought a puppy. She is gorgeous though and irresistable named Chiquita. She is 4months old and needs to have her first period before she can be sterilised, so they havent got her yet. This means me and kerry will look after her as well as the others this week and may steal her!!!!
That night me Kerry Barak and Darren and Sekas brother all went out in San Salvador for a night out. We got back in to the hostel at 3am after a lot of dancing in pretentious bars full of rich El Salvadorians. We made it a good night though! lots of great music and a visit to a supposedly english bar...basically the outside was a union jack!
Thats about it for now as we are still waiting to hear if we can arrange accomodation with the dog sanctuary. if we volunteer we will be the first ever volunteers there and they need help with everything from admin to care to fundraising. its non profit and run and funded by 2 women alone. they need the help.
