Akwaaba! Maaha :) Ete sen?
Which is: Welcome, Good afternoon :) How are you?
The language is exciting, just like the city of Accra!... Colour, heat, noise, traffic, sun, music... and the occasional guy raising his eyebrows and licking his lips at you from a taxi - my first 'marriage proposal' experience of ghana, hardly that sophisticated!
I've had some 'Ghanaian classes' today... It's been a long day already; this morning feels like yesterday! We've learnt about customs, laws, safety... Here's a couple of interesting facts for you:
Using your left hand for passing things, gesturing and eating is really frowned upon and you have to always try and use your right hand or apologise if you use your left!
Someone saying to you: Haven't you put on weight? is a huge compliment, and being skinny isn't good!
All the other volunteers are really nice :) I'm having a wonderful time so far (suppose I better be as its only my first day!)... the food has been good; I actually quite like yams, and we also bought a mango off the street to share together which was delicious!
Gotta say, I'm not missing home, yet, which is a good thing coz when that kicks in it'll really suck
Love to you all and God Bless xxx

wendyann Great to hear from you already! I understand a good way to remember which hand to use is to sit on your left one. Make sure you only accept a really good deal marriage wise - lots of camels and goats in the contract - there can't be many gingers in Accra! God bless x
Max Have to say it sounds interesting! As a lefty Id constantly be offending people!!! Hope your having fun B!
Jimmy Do you have to eat with your right hand? That took me quite a few days to get used to in India. Glad you arrived safely =)
