Great start to the day, we had payed for the sleeper bus as the journey was 12 hours but we got a seating one. I dont mmind too much but its a nightmare for James as he's so tall and gets uncomfortable. The best thing happed on the bus though. I had started reading a book and had been on the hunt for the 2nd one ever since we were in Phi Phi. A girl next to me had it so i asked here where she had gotten it, here or the uk and she said uk. That was pretty much it untill they got off the bus at another town and she was mouthing something to me through the window. I had no idea what she wanted but next thing her boyfriend was at the side of me book in hand and passed it to me, I was so exciting thanking the girl through the window it was such a nice thing to do.
Saigon is the origional name for Ho Chi minh before the north surendoured to the south (or something like that). We arrived at 6.30pm once again with no where to stay but luckily Adam had left a day before us so we checked in at Saigon Backpackers. We went for food that turned out to be just vile and then went to Bui Vien to try find Adam and the others at the beer place. Basically plastic chairs lininng the pavements were they sell really cheap beer and is always packed..
Day 2 we headed to the war remnants museum and the Reuntification Palace. We decided to walk even though it was 30 minutes away to see more and stopped off at a french bakery for breakfast which was so good.
Niether of us are really into the war or know anything about it however we really enjoyed the museum even though it was quite sad. As you enter, the outside of the museum is filled with US army tanks, planes, helicopters ect which we loved untill we saw what the US army actually did in vietnam. Neither of us stillr eally know why thw war happed but over 300 million people were killed. Some of the pictures were so graphic of the tortured, burnt and dead bodies. At one point though we did realise we were being quite nieve as we grew more of a dislikng to the US but of course the museum is one sided and will obviously portray the Americans in the worst possible way.
We also learnt about Agent Orange in the was and how over 72 million liters we disposed of over Vietman contaminating everything in its way. This resulted to severe physical impairments and disabilities in babys. This has also been passed down generations due to the affect on the genes. Eevn the soldiers from the US army wwent on to have severely disabled children though contamination. This made us understand why you so so many people in the streets with very similar impariments, or disfiguration. Rather annoying though, at 12.30 some woman walses through turns all the lights of and announces its dinner time and that the museum is shut for an hour and a half. We decided to check out the Reuntification Palace the home of Ho Chi Minh.
It reallt wasnt worth the money and was rather boring but at leat we got a picture and can say we have been. After the second trip to the was museum we walked back to near the backpacker area, went and had noodles at a little street cafe follwed by an afternoon beer on Bui Vien.
That evening we went to the night market which James just loves.............I wish, we literally get there, I start in one stall, look up and he's at the other end of the market ready to leave. For tea we went to a place called Sa Sa Cafe. The food was so good and for the first time I have ever seen, James was full and leftovers. Shock. We went back to the berr place and met a few people and of course were the last 6 on the pavement after the had cleared the rest round us at about 2.30pm.
Day 3 was the trip to Cu Chi Tunnels.
We started off watching a really rubbish vidoe about how and why the tunnelwere used during the war. From there we were walked around the jungle and shown various traps and entrances to the tunnels. At one point we had the chance to get in one of the tiny holes and were all suprised when james fitted in. After that we went down into the tunnels, stupidly we followed everyone else out of the tunel after 20mtrs but could have continued for 100mtrs but never mind. We had the opprtunity to fire machine guns but we passed as its something we want to do in Cambodia.
That evening we had planned to go to one of the skybars for drinks but the amount it cost just to go up really wasnt worth it so we treated ourselfs to Pizza hut insead as our last Viatnamese meal as tommorow we leave for Cambodia!!

Grandma & Grandad Vietnam was a particularly nasty war, fortunately Britain kept out of it. By the time you arrive in Australia you will have a culture blowout. lots of love Granma & Grandad
