From Koh Tao we took the ferry to Surithani followed by a 3 hour bus ride to Krabi town. We are starting to run out of days to fit everything in so cut it down to 2 nights. Rather than stayin in Ao Nang by the beach we stayed in Krabi town at Krabi guest house for only 300bht a night. Our room was huge, just a shame about the ants in the bed, they obviously loved the whini the pooh bedding as much as we did!
That evening we met a lost little 18 year old from canada so took her with us to the evening food market and for a drink. As we only had one full day we decided to book a day trip to the 4 islands.
We woke up bright and early all excited for tropical beaches, tropical islands and tropical fish, even better the tropical storm!!! The first time we have actually paid to do an organised trip and monsoon season decides to shjow itself. We did try cancel but it was too late. We got a taxi to Ao Nang to see everyone huddled together in a shop panic buying ponchos and dry bags. We were all prepared with our rains coats but bought a dry bag which has already been well worth the money.
We were all hopefull that the rain would clear by late morning but oh how we were wrong. The first stop was a tiny beach on more of an oversized rock than an island. Here we had an hour of sun while we sunbathed and swam. There was a film crew there and an indian guy dressed i n a fuscia pink suite and a white turban dancing up to his wasite in water for some bollywood music video which was entertaining to watch. This however was the 1 and only hour of sun we saw. the sky went black and the heavens opened, the sea looked grey and grim. The waves came crashing over the side of the boat so we were all soaked. The next stop was snorklling in the storm, but he kindly told us because of the rain the jelly fish rise to the surface the snorkiling was a huge failure.
By the time it was lunch it was still raining, all soaking wet we got thrown off on another island with a box of cold rice and something that resembled chicken but we couldnt be sure. Not very apetising or mood lifting after our morning so far. The afternoon didnt get much better as the waves continued to come over our tiny little wooden longtail boat.
I thought it was histerical and couldnt stop laughing at the site, the tropical beauty of thailand had diminished into a grumpy wet trip at what could of been blackpool with the look on peoples faces, everyone hunched up in their raincoats.
The fianl stop was Ray Leigh, we pulled into a little cove and was directed through a little path between the rocks. The place is renowned for its rock formations and rock climbing. It really was a site to see. We eventually came out on a secluded little beach surrounded bu huge huge huge rocks covered in rockclimbers. This deffinatly brightened everyones day up and the rain had finally started to ease.
Later on we stumbled across a really cool night market and the locals were out in full force with it been Friday. The smell was so good with all the street vendours selling food. Rather than go for a meal we went went all the stalls trying all sorts of yummy things, in the middle of the market was a msall stage surrounded by tables and chairs so we sat and watched the locals performing. The atmosphere was ace. as we walked back we saw a boy no older than 4 breakdancing to his little ghetto blaster, the cutest thing I have ever seen!
Netx stop Phi Phi!

Emma (favourite cousin) Haha why do you always seem to find bollywood films and videos? It's a shame about the weather - but it sounds pretty cool with all the waves, if a little scary! Safe travels in Phi Phi!
Andrea (Mum) Bit like home then!!! Any consolation, Lou is in Majorca and having temperatures in the high 30's. :-( xx
Barbara & Harold Laycock just sounds like the weather we have had since you went, at least you found something to laugh about. Sounds like an amazing place. We hope you both enjoyed your Thai cooking course and had a good day for your birthday. Love and best wishes Grandma & Grandad
